Thankful for Extended Release!
ke one so I wouldn't wake up congested and with irritated eyes.I live in Oklahoma where seasonal allergies can be a problem pretty much year round. I was never even bothered by allergies until I moved here, but wow, can they make a person miserable! Itchy eyes are the worst for me, and it can border on incapacitating when it's severe.Chlorpheniramine Maleate has been the only effective antihistamine for me. I've tried other kinds and they either don't work well, don't work at all, or don't work plus cause side-effects, particularly headaches. The problem with Chlorpheniramine Maleate though has been that they're available only in four-hour tablets in the stores around here. It's just not easy to remember to take another one that often. My reminder was often my eyes bothering me again and if I'd have to wait for the medication to start providing relief. I was actually setting an alarm in the middle of the night so I could take one so I wouldn't wake up congested and with irritated eyes. Now, I take one of these in the morning and one at night for around-the-clock relief. The directions say no more than two a day, but once in a while I do supplement with a four-hour tablet near the end of the day depending on my schedule and how high the allergen counts are. I still need eye drops sometimes, too, plus I'll also use nose spray and decongestants as needed . . . The Chlorpheniramine Maleate does its job and it does it well; that's just the nature of seasonal allergies - there's not one product that can cover all the symptoms. The Chlorpheniramine Maleate tablets are all I need the majority of the time, and needing just two per day, rather than six, makes managing my symptoms so much easier. I really appreciate having these available!

Very effective allergy medication!
I am a physician who treats allergies a lot. I know what I'm talking about. This is an older allergy medication that is largely overlooked now because of the newer stuff. However, especially in combination with newer medications, this is quite effective. It has a very rapid onset, usually about 20 minutes. The 12 mg tablets also generally last about 8 to 12 hours. The only drawback that I've run across is that in about 5% of people this medication makes them very drowsy. The only way to find out if you are one of the 5% is to take one. For that reason, you might want to sample a lower dose in a small pack from your corner drugstore, and try it out first. However, if it does make you drowsy, you can just take it at night and it makes a fairly effective sleeping pill.

Great antihistamine, but you pay for the convenience
Like a lot of other reviewers, chlorpheniramine is the only drug I've found that effectively treats my allergies. I'm allergic to cats, and live with 13(!), so a good, convenient antihistamine is a must. With smart shopping, the cost is about 2 1/2 cents per hour of allergy protection for extended release chlorpheniramine. With the traditional 4 hour pills, the cost is about 1/5 of a cent per hour. That means you pay more than 12 times as much for the convenience. That said, with the 4 hour pills, I'd often find myself exceeding the dosage instructions because my allergies would wax and wane throughout the day. With these pills I really can just take two per day and be pretty much allergy-free. For me it's absolutely worth it, but if you're trying to be frugal, be aware of the large premium you pay for the extended release formula.

Didn't last 12 hours, maybe 5 or 6 hours.
I've been having hives for a month, and the chlor - trimeton 4 hour was the only thing that worked on my hives at all. So I ordered the 12 hour hoping I'd stop waking up in the middle of the night, itchy, having to take another pill. But I took one at 3pm, and by 8:30 my hives were back. :-(

12 hour at such a great price
I can not find these in my local stores in 12 hour and this quantity at such a great price. I have a black lab that is very VERY allergic to both food and environmental. This is one of the many components I use to keep her as symptom free as I can. It was delivered quickly and the packaging was easy to open. The pills are coated so when I put it in my dogs wet food it doesn't taste bitter, so she doesn't notice its there.I just love purchasing from Amazon. Before Amazon, everything I needed would have been a trip to a different store. Now, if I need something – just about anything, I go and look at Amazon first. It’s amazing that I can buy everything from It’s amazing that I can buy everything from cereal, dog food, nail products, clothing, household items and electronics. Along those lines, buying allergy pills is just another example of the wonder that is Amazon. I ordered it and 3 days later, it was here. Then we have the additional spectacular invention that is Amazon prime. Before Amazon Prime, if I didn’t want to pay shipping, I had to purchase at least $25 worth of items. Which in itself that isn’t a lot, but I don’t always need more than a couple bucks worth of stuff, and now I get what I want, when I want it. Unfortunately, this has made purchases from other online entities underwhelming. When it takes 10 days from you purchase to arrive, “wholly cow” that seems like forever now. This praise and rant doesn’t mean that I think Amazon is perfect, and I have had a few problems here and there, but over all – Amazon is my go to place for everything I need to buy, except groceries.

Great Allergy Slayer
Chlorphen is the present flag on the ingredients I once took as Chlortrimeton. I was originally prescribed this medication in the seventies when it was still regulated and only sold by Rx. It was put 'over-the-counter' a few years later and I continued taking it but with the boom of all manner of other allergy medications the Chlortrimeton became more difficult to find, until I located it here under the new flag. It's still the ONLY medication that works for me and my daughter. It's 12 hours but we take it every 8, the Rx my doctor originally prescribed for me. Works fantastic! My daughter tried everything else, naturally, because I recommended MY medication. She had to surrender at the end and discovered Daddy knew best. :-)
