As noted by other reviewers, the magnesium will run out before the striker ever does; however, for the cost-to-utility ratio, this is well worth the purchase for any outdoorsman.

This is worth every penny. Sparks way more than the others. Plus the nifty features make is a must in a survival situation. Bought 3 more to give out as presents.

The Fire Fly is a small, light weight fire starter that for the most part get a fire started on the first strike. The amount of magnesium shaving you get from each rubbing is small and so it time consuming to get an adequate amount. I found it wasn't worth the effort. I used my to start a fire in the fire base of a Kelly Kettle Trekker.

This is 1 of the best for starters I've ever used. Everything you need except wood. Works in wet conditions as well. Great product.

If you can't start a fire with this, it's your tinder that's the issue. No not your tinder date, your fire tinder. We were able to start a fire on a windy beach just after the rain, once we got our tinder sorted it only took 2 strikes.

Perfectly made in every way...I love this striker works fast and easy, fyi hold the striking plate still and back the ferro part of the plate less chance to lose tinder

I have the original, which is huge. This smaller version is great for back packing.
