Fine for most households
I kept waffling back-and-forth between this and a larger model specifically because all the video reviews and everything said this was appropriate for 1-2 people, but the deal is if you just bake normal things and normal portions like one cake or pie, or one batch of cookies at a time, and you don't want a larger model, this is just fine for a family up to 4-6 people. My wife broke it in today and made a batch of four dozen cookies using a 12 oz. bag of chocolate chips and had no issues with the bowl being too small for the batch. We wanted a stand mixer because while my wife loves baking, she has issues with arthritis that make hand mixing something like this batch of cookies and other things that you would normally hand mix difficult. But this mixer made the task nearly effortless, and once she was done mixing the batch she described this mixer as "a Godsend." I really wanted this model because it has a DC motor and is just as powerful but quieter than the larger models with their AC motors, and it also has all metal gears and soft-start. The only drawback with the 3.5 quart model is that there isn't a plethora of additional bowls and accessories, though all the attachments do work with it apparently with the exception of the ice cream maker. There's only a couple of additional beaters available from KitchenAid or any other vendor, I could only find a glass mixing bowl from KA, and there's no pouring shields from anyone, just generic pouring chutes (and NO, it does NOT come with a pouring shield despite what this website says). There's also no pastry beaters available, but I figure if our baking skills progress that far then we’ll get the 5 quart Artisan next Black Friday. Update: Made a yeast roll recipe that called for 4 cups of flour, and it just rode up the dough hook instead of mixing around in the bottom. I will halve the recipe in order to make it in this mixer. Still happy, though.

Great little mini
Love this mini! Had kitchen remodeled and this fits perfectly on my counter. It's such a practical size too.

Small enough for "Just the Two of Us" but still makes a double batch
I make pizza, baguettes, WW/seeded/artisan bread, French/Italian bread. I'm cooking for just two people. This mixer is light enough to live on a top shelf and my geriatric arms and their arthritic joints can still lift the thing just fine. Even with the smaller bowl and hook, I routinely make double batches of most things (2 or 4 pizzas depending on thickness, four loaves, 6-8 baguettes). Works just great with no perceivable strain on the mixer. Adjust the hook up or down into or out of the bowl to fine tune. It's in the documents but very brief. Simply tilt up the top of the mixer on it's hinge. Find the large, flat head screw in the "crotch" of the hinged arm. Tighten the screw to move the dough hook deeper into the bowl. Loosen the screw to move the hook out. I set mine so it just clears the crumbs in the bottom of the bowl. Then as the dough ball hydrates, it will pick up the crumbs. Very happy with this mixer. I'd buy it again. My wife likes it because it looks retro cool..:-)

A bit pricey, but worth splurging on!
I love my new Kitchen Aid 3.5 quart mixer. It fits perfectly underneath my cabinets and looks great, too. It’s quiet and easy to use. It did a great job mixing my batter, and I love the tilt head capability. It’s easy to operate and clean. It’s pricey, but well worth it.

Space Saving Quality
Smaller than full size mixer. But we just recently renovated our kitchen, and the full size mixer would not fit on the mixer lift we had installed, and full size was too heavy. This is a smaller, lighter version with the same power which fits the lift. Perfect if you don't have the room and we are still able to make full casseroles and cakes. KitchenAid is the only brand mixer we will buy...the difference in quality is obvious.

Great LITTLE mixer for small kitchens
The black cast iron color gets and stays pretty messy. It doesn’t have a smooth surface, it’s bumpy and therefore gives batter something to cling on to. I bought this as a beginner model, not as a space-saving model. I have the room for a big one, just thought I wouldn’t need a big one. Boy was I wrong. Once you get to 5 or 6 cups of flour, the flour is being flung out of the bowl and even on low speed, you can start to smell the heat of the motor buring something up! All I know is I got scared once I smelled the burning so I turned it off. Now this didn’t happen because of normal use - I definitely was working the machine at capacity with 6 cups of flour. This has been a good machine otherwise but I am now back on Amazon, looking for a bigger one. So if you need the space-saving design, then yes, this is your tool but if you’re just starting out and you have the space- I would DEFINITELY go for the bigger one. You will need it. Making bulk bread is so much better than making one. Plus most recipes call for splitting the dough in half and making 2 loaves anyway. I haven’t used it for anything other than mixing bread dough with the included attachment. It is easy to move around from pantry to countertop. I would wait until you see it on sale, however. I noticed the price has almost doubled. yikes.

Small size with plenty of capacity
I have had this for a few years and love it. It is lightweight and doesn't take a ton of room on the countertop. The bowl is big enough for cakes, muffins, meringues, and single loaves of focaccia bread.

Great product! Useful tool in any kitchen.
Works very well as advertised. I like to do cookies in batches that are usually around 24 to 36 and it seems to be around the perfect size for that. I also made a massive cake – three layers end with this mixer. That nearly took it to the limit, but it worked. The look as attractive, build quality is excellent, and functionality a welcome addition addition to my kitchen.
