Caught a spark easily
I purchased these for an emergency fire kit, naturally I had to try one to make sure it worked. The tender caught a spark well and burned for a suitable amount of time .

Perfect.
I was surprised to see how tiny these tinders are. They’re small enough to fit through a straw and that works well for all of my survival kits. I was more amazed by how easily they light up. For a material that isn’t soaked in fuel they only need a good spark to burn. I’ll definitely need to order more in the future.

The Tinder Quik Fire Tabs are an excellent addition to any camping/survival pack ...
When I was setting up a very basic camping kit, one of the things I purchased was a package of these Tinder Quik Fire Tabs One of the suggestions that John "Lofty" Wiseman made in his SAS Survival Handbook was to put these, along with a couple other items, in an old tobacco tin and seal it. I did like Wiseman's suggestion and decided to add a couple of other things to this basic survival/camping packet. One of the things that will fit in a tin is the Emergency Fire Starter (magnesium) and some UCO Stormproof Matches. Together they can figuratively (and perhaps literally) be a lifesaver when you need to start a fire in inclement weather. Each one of these fire tabs is about an inch long. Yes, you can use lint or shavings, but these are very compact and will easily fit in the tin. You simply pull them apart when you're ready to start your fire. It is suggested that you "always have wood chips, twigs, leaves, etc. On hand before starting [your] fire." You simply pull these apart before you light them. The tin idea works very well and if you seal with masking tape, the tin can be easily resealed. One other item I added to the mix was the 24-inch Chainmate Survival Saw, an item that completed my basic camping/survival packet. This handy little saw easily fits in a backpack or can be worn on a belt.

Fire starter testing - I do like these
Hope this helps.-They came in a pkg of 10 as advertised.1st impression was they were awful small. These are wrapped cotton wads. I did 3 tests1. fluffed one end and lit the fire tab with a Magnesium Fire Starter. It burned ok for 2 min.2. I dipped two of these in hot candle wax, so it was saturated. Left one end open so i could fluff it and light with a Magnesium Fire Starter. This one burned for 3 min. Same test ran twice with the same results3. Put 2 in a small baggie with Vaseline. Squished it around and let it sit overnight. I had to light these with a lighter as the Magnesium Fire Starter would not give enough spark. I tried scrapping a few times and then getting a bigger spark, but it would not light without the direct flame. These burned for 4 minutes.--When I say it burned for a certain amount of time it means the flame was steady for that time. it was still burning after that, but the flame had started to get smaller.--- I like the product and will order more and I'll be using the wax dipped on these. I always use multiple flame source in my bags, but the wax dipped allows the striker and a lighter. Better choice for me. These tests were done in pretty optimal conditionsYou can always use more than one for bigger or longer flame.

very very small but good
I only received 9-1/2 pieces but I bought these for an emergency kit. I doubt that I will have to start 10 fires in an emergency. The point of this though is that it can be used even in damp conditions to start a fire. They don't put out enough fire to start wet wood ( at least mine didn't). But with a little dry kindling you can build up to wet wood.Personally though I think a better way to go is to get a hunk of one of those 3 hour logs for your fire place. A baseball size hunk will start a lot of fires.

These work great with magnesium
I got a small pack of these to try out before buying a larger pack for a camping trip. They work great & the best thing is you can squash them almost as flat as a credit card & fit them into little containers to bring along. For example I put a couple in the handle of a survival knife, and a couple inside a waterproof match tube I have tied to my magnesium stick/flint firestarter. They are not just fluffy stuff, they seem to have some kind of waxy fuel or something in the middle that helps them burn, yet there's no smell or anything, nor are they toxic. So supposedly even if they're damp they will still assist in getting a fire started.Even if you do it the easy way & use a regular old lighter to start your fires instead of striking flint trying to do it the "hardcore" way ;) you can still use these things to get a fire going. A lot of times when it's damp, it's fine burning slightly wet wood once the fire is roaring, but getting one going can be a real pain when all the grass and tinder-type stuff is wet. These little tinder tufts hold the flame long enough to get some thicker stuff burning. I wouldn't go camping without them, now.

Good for emergency use
These are so light and take up nearly zero room. To have a couple of packs of these for backup just makes a ton of sense. I have started one with a fire steel and a Zippo wheel operated sparker and both work. I prefer the fire steel because that throws a lot of really hot sparks but the Zippo can be worked one handed in you happen to have injured one hand.
