Expressive Painting in Mixed Media

Although I really love the artwork, it is the usual beginners guide with excessive descriptions of materials, tools, surfaces etc which may be found in each and every book and online art shops offer it for free. Artist`s personal expirience, which I was for, is just in the introduction (which was the only thing in a free sample) and a very few demonstrations. Really hoped it would be like Robin Capon books with Mike Bernard and Claire Harrigan.

I love this artist - her knowledge of colour mixing is unsurpassed as is her ability to freely and happily express her huge palette of results. We had the privilege of attending her course in Knysna South Africa some years ago. What a pleasure; buy her books they are learning curves with extraordinary Oomph! A unique and beautiful person with huge talent totally expressed in her publications!

Great art to study if you are trying to loosen up. That said, if you are looking to replicate work, this in not the book you want. I tried some of her methods, in my own way, with different results. It was fun and inspiring.

I enjoyed and learnt so much about the authors uses different kinds of mediums. I have a better understanding about materials and the use of color

I am just learning acrylic painting and this book is fantastic for inspiration and encouraging experimenting. Soraya explains all the different mediums available to us today - and how to use them in painting without it becoming overload of textures. Really smashing book - cant put it down :)

A fabulous introduction to mixed media. I use it in two ways - looking through the many examples of the author's work to kick-start my own creativeness; and reading the detailed text to find out about the products available (I had no idea there were so many mixed media items out there!). This is one of the best 'how to' art books I've found as it informs but does not preach and has loads of helpful tips. Some artists seem reluctant to give away what they perhaps consider to be trade secrets but Soraya French is happy to share her considerable knowledge for which I'm grateful.

Fantastic book very easy to follow and full of excellent ideas . Cannot put it down and I now have so many ideas for producing mixed media art works for myself. I had for a long time wanted to try something new and this book has given me the confidence to have a go.Brilliant illustrations and the demonstrations are easy to follow and are good starting points for your own ideas.

This book is packed with information and advice about all aspects of mixed media painting. The section on colour is easy to understand and the text is very readable. I love Soraya's work, and have attended a couple of her workshops which were inspiring (see [...]).
