Seafarers is a great addition to Catan. It adds 9 new game play options, each with a slightly different board setup and rules. The 9th scenario allows you to build your own world, while following a few simple instructions or create it all on your own. While 2 people can play, it's much more fun with 3 or more. From what I researched before buying the Seafarers expansion, this is easier to learn than some other expansion sets and a big favorite of Catan lovers. As always, the instructions are pretty clear and have images and examples, but watching a couple of YouTube videos showing set up and game play can make it much easier to get started. Don't forget that this is an expansion set and you need the original Catan board game in addition to Seafarers. This is for up to 4 players, there are extension sets for 5-6 players that you can get separately. Catan is a family favorite, whenever we get together. Playing Seafarers has added so many fun options. A good value, arrived quickly and in great condition. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great Game, Adds a new aspect to the game of Catan... It's simple enough for a new Catan player to understand and adds enough variation that a veteran Catan player should have enough new challenges to make the game interesting again. My board pieces were all cut very nicely. I know other reviewers complained about the images being off centered on their tokens but mine had no problem. I own the 4th edition of the Basic Settlers of Catan. This is 5th edition that features updated artwork and styles. I actually enjoy the 5th edition artwork over the 4th edition. If cost wasn’t a factor I’d update my original set to the 5th edition so everything matched. That being said all the 5th and 4th edition pieces are 100% compatible. The different art styles are distracting and take a few extra seconds to process but doesn’t hinder gameplay at all. My favorite update from the 4th edition to the 5th is a little silhouette symbol that indicates the differences between the expansion and the original. AKA it’s easy to sort the correct pieces into the correct boxes when game play is over. The 4th edition didn’t have this so I had to keep a list of how many tiles went in each box. If you buy the 5-6 player expansion for this game the symbols also change so you can sort the 5-6 player pieces into the correct box. (However you might want to use a fine tip pen to mark the bottom of the trade tokens so you know which set they belong too.

I am a huge fan of Settlers of Catan, so I was thrilled to try out the Seafarers Adventure Board Game Expansion. It did not disappoint! The expansion is well-designed, adding a new layer of excitement to the classic game. The maritime theme is a refreshing twist, and it seamlessly integrates with the original gameplay. The quality of the components is excellent, ensuring durability for countless gaming sessions. What I love most is the flexibility it brings to the table. With options for 3 to 4 players, it's perfect for family game nights or smaller gatherings. The suggested playtime of 60 minutes is just right – long enough to be engaging but not too lengthy. Catan Studio has done a fantastic job with this expansion pack. It not only captures the essence of Settlers of Catan but elevates the gaming experience. If you're a fan of the base game, this expansion is a must-have. Highly recommended for adults and families alike!

This is the only Catan expansion I'd call "essential". The game feels complete with this expansion. Its the easiest Catan expansion to learn since the additions are more about making the map bigger, rather than introducing complex new mechanics. Game adds: * New unit, boats * Bigger maps * A bunch of setups/modes that add variety (4 islands, fog islands, across the desert) My game group prefers the fog island setup. You have two islands on either side of the map, and a region of undiscovered (read: face down) hexes in the middle. As soon as you build some ships out to the "undiscovered" area, you flip the hex and pull a number token from the bag. Adds risk/reward and incentive to move around the map. Very fun.

We started playing Catan and quickly realized we loved the game. The expansion packs are a bit pricey. But it adds a great strategic element and increases the fun factor exponentially! There are a few new twists in this expansion. In addition to the robber, there's also a pirate ship. And shipping lanes have been added, similar to how roads are used. The board gets larger and the manual provides several game layout options. Fantastic! One thing to note: Be sure you purchase what you think you are purchasing. The expansion packs affect the board and its layout. There are also extension(?) packs that let you add the number of players. Those are less expensive so don't think you're getting a bargain if you really intend to get something else.

This game is great, super-fun. But really, would it kill someone to let me win every once in a while? Seriously, this thing is rigged. I prefer the method of turning over tiles as you reach them, and I swear to God I get desert EVERY SINGLE TIME. I get so much desert you would think I'd grown an extra hump (in addition to the hump I currently have on my right shoulder, and I'll thank you not to stare). But overall I am very satisfied with my purchase, the Seafarer's Edition is without a doubt the best of the expansion packs that I have played so far. One day I hope to buy all of the expansions and play across a giant table, like some sort of child king (in his late 30's). I'd also love to play with other people too, but meh, can't have everything...

We got "settlers of Catan" in June and our family was completely hooked on it, playing a couple of games every week. After it started getting a bit old (although "Settlers of Catan" provide some room for improvisation), we decided on getting the Seafarers expansion. I read the reviews, especially paying attention to the critical ones. I was a bit concerned about two things that people mentioned: 1) the instructions are too complicated and they are difficult to learn; 2) the set is not worth the value, as all you are getting are a couple of new hexes and sets of ships. after having the expansion for two days and having played four games of "Heading to the new shores" for three and four players, I would like to address both of the concerns for the sake of those who love Catan and are looking for something new. 1) I can see that the detailed instructions can be overwhelming. However, I would advise baby-steps. Scan the rules regarding the ships, start with the first game - "Heading to the new shores", set up the board according to the provided scheme, and start as you usually start (set up the settlements and get your initial resources). Then, as questions arises, consult the rule book. I am pretty sure the dedicated players will get a hang of it during first 15-20 min. of the game. After that it's very clear. 2) it's true that you are getting only a couple of hexes, four sets of ships and tokens. However, when you read the booklet you'll see that there are not one, but ELEVEN new scenarios, some of them have different set up for three or four players. The possibilities are endless! It's like you are getting not one, but eleven different games! So you are paying not for the actual cardboard, but for the intellectual property. We are really looking forward to playing "The Fog Island", where part of the board is not set up, and islands appear as you go. The Forgotten Tribe, the Pirate Island and the Cloth for Catan also sound very promising. I have to say that although our 12 y.o. played with us a couple of times, it's a bit tiring for her. Our older kids are enjoying it as much as we are. Excellent game. Highly recommend.

This is my favorite expansion pack - it gives the larger board for more players with exciting new play options. The best thing is while it adds to the game, it so different that it’s too difficult for newer players to understand quickly - no one wants to spend half the night explaining the difference in rules! The basics are adding ships that cost two resources, add another variation of the robber, and some basic placement rules similar to building/connecting roads. The rule book includes different setups with specific challenges or points that are fun and provide even more variations - for example, one setup has mystery resource tiles to claim once your ships reach that part of the board. If you want to just free play with random setups to get playing quickly that’s also an option. The board pieces themselves are high quality and interlock well. We fit all the important pieces in one Catan box and moved the extra instructions and papers into the other rather than having to open up both boxes for game night. Enjoy!

Esta expansión es buenísima para darle variedad al clásico de catan. Se pueden jugar diferentes escenarios lo que te da diferentes juegos en uno solo, ya casi no jugamos el clásico y vamos jugando las diferentes expansiones. Llegó en tiempo y forma y sin ningún detalle.

Color's didn't match. Tabs don't match so it doesn't fit. Seriously Catan Makers, in these days of gender fluidity, how two you manufacture board pieces with 2 male tabs?? Waste of money, and already opened so I couldn't return it.

You will enjoy it a lot...but you have to buy the main Catan game first, then buy this extention. Board and pieces are Poor a little bit...But the game is vey nice.

I love Catan — it’s probably my all-time favourite board game. I play it on my phone a lot, but nothing beats sitting around a table and playing the real thing with people. The Seafarers expansion adds a whole new layer to the game with boats and exploration. Being able to build across water and discover new islands keeps things feeling fresh instead of playing the same setup every time. My favourite part is making islands and changing the map every game. It adds variety without making the rules complicated or overwhelming. If you already enjoy Catan, this is an easy recommendation. It’s my favourite expansion and the one I reach for the most.
