Not quite worth the money
Polar G1 GPS Speed and Distance Sensor for FT60 / FT80 The unit works well when it comes to measuring the total distance of your run and the average speed. It does not work well when it comes to functioning as a "speedometer" during the run (e.g. showing the current speed), as it is fluctuating too much. It was a bit heavier than I had expected, but the elastic band works well and after a while I did not notice wearing it. My main objection against recommending this unit would be that you can get a combined GPS / heart rate monitor (i.e. eliminating the need for a separate GPS unit) from Garmin for about the same price (e.g.ย Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor ).

Nonfunctioning
This item fails to meet my expectations will not connect with satellite until I have nearly finished my walk. So , information is always off. Would not recommend.

Great, but not a smart phone
It takes a little bit to actually find your location, so I generally spend some time stretching while I wait for a green light. (No more than 5 minutes though). Once it has found you though, you are good to go! Polar doesn't plot a map at this point in time, so for any serious runners, I recommend also getting the RunKeeper app for your smart phone. RunKeeper doesn't support windows phone, but the Caledos Runner app on windows phone will tie into RunKeeper. If you are a part of Virgin HealthMiles, you will rack up points by tying your RunKeeper and Polar to Virgin HealthMiles.

Extremely unimpressed
I purchased the G1 GPS unit to go with my Polar FT80 training watch. First off, the user manual was borderline useless, and the website even worse. The arm band has to have one of the worst designs I have ever seen, it is completely unusable. However, the unit does clip onto your clothing pretty easily and securely. Now onto performance. I've used the unit twice, both times running the same course. I've run this course many times using an older Garmin GPS watch, so I know the mile markers pretty well. The first run with this device, it added an extra mile onto my 8 mile run. I appreciate Polar wanting to tell me I was running a 7:15 pace over 8 miles, but that hasn't been true for a number of years. On the second run, it shorted me 7/10's of a mile. With those inconsistent results, the product is useless, and I will go back to running with my old Garmin.

I don't recommend this product. Try a pedometer for the same information.
I would rather recommend a pedometer than this GPS Unit. It is expensive, It burns down batteries, it's heavy and very slow to catch satellites even with no buildings are arround. It doesn't allow you to map your run and now most smart phones with GPS can handle an app that will record much more than this. It provides not much more information than a pedometer.

Could be improved...
As foreseen: wait (without moving) two minutes to connect to the satellites, don't expect the battery to last more than 60 hours of running. But if as me you don't want to buy a new gadget and like your old polar, it's good enough...

Its not great.
This is kind of big and annoying to wear on a shoe. My gf does not like it and does not use it.

Very limited use
Full disclosure - I sent the unit back after two rides with it. My Polar FT60 gave me very little info during the ride, and only if I pushed buttons on the watch. Furthermore, after the ride the device wasn't useful for uploading to Strava or Endomondo. All it gives you is the total distance traveled, and average speed. I wanted more data than that. For the price of this GPS, I purchased the Garmin Edge 200.

Great Unit
Great unit. Instructions say batteries only last 10 hours but mine have lasted nearly double that (so far). Takes a little while to pick up satellites but then it stays locked on. Repeatability is excellent (+/- 0.1km)

Very Expensive and does Very Little
Having got the watch I thought this would be a useful addition so I could see where I had been. It does remarkably little, though if I am honest it does do what it says on the box. It gives you a total distance, ave and peak speeds and that is about it. It DOES NOT do any mapping, record where you have been, give climb or anything else you would expect from a GPS. Also the signal from it seems to be stunningly poor as the watch keeps on loosing it and beeping and then finding it. I compared it with another GPS and on the map and because of this its results are pretty poor (claiming I had done 20% less)Sorry but there are not 101 products out there that are better than this and cost only a little more.

Polar gps accessory
It seems to do what I require its a shame it can't be fitted to a bike mount instead of having to be worn on the arm. You've just got to remember to programme link it to your watch.
