Puppet Motel (MAC Version)

I was very disappointed to find that this disc is only usable in what Maccalls 'Classic' mode, something that is unavailable on any of the newerIntel Macs, or any Mac running 10.5 or later.(Technically, there are some work arounds to run "classic" on a newerMac, but if you Google them, you'll see they're not easy, and requiretime, effort, and it seems like some trial and error.)The 3 stars was a bit arbitrary, I had to put something, and thought thisinformation was valuable to potential consumers.

Puppet Motel is a classic, a brilliant Laurie Anderson performance squeezed onto a CD. It's modern. It's artistic. It's intriguing. It's fascinating.Yes, you will have to learn how to use Sheepshaver and find a bootleg Mac ROM image and locate an antique generic OS 7, 8 or 9 CD, but it this interactive artwork is worth it.I had long been a Laurie Anderson fan. Puppet Motel has the same sensibility as her concerts. It's an interactive performance exploiting sound, sense, music and light. The "game" is split into rooms, rooms linked by light and story. One travels under water, back in time and through space. It's not a game in the sense of killing zombies or racking up points, but in terms of exploration and discovery.I wish there were a more modern version that could run under a recent OS without using a bizarrely named OS, but I suppose the requisite scavenger hunt is now part of the art. Sheepshaver itself seems to have been written by Martians and booting from a real or virtual OS installation CD takes one back into the past. But then, one starts Puppet Motel and everything seems just right.
