a nice little light for the bux... maybe
All in all, a pretty nice flashlight for the bux, *if* it works.I'm revising/deleting most of the review, because it seems to be a crap-shoot (emphasis on crap) as to what's being sold lately. As with most zoomies, at its widest it's got a beautiful wide flood with no unwanted hotspots, all the way to projecting the image of the LED chip onto the wall like te batsignal at its tightest focus. :) Keep in mind, though, that the aspheric lens does *not* capture all the same light with the shroud extended ("spot" mode) as when it's tucked in ("flood" mode). By indirectly lighting the ceiling in a darkened room, you'll see the overall brightness drop when you go from flood to spot. Keeping it in flood mode scoops up the most light.Don't expect anything even remotely approaching 1000lm. Expect maybe 200lm for an XM-L light, to maybe 80lm from whatever smaller LatticeBright chips get thrown in (more like the size of an XP-E at best). All in all, it's a nice little light, and if you want an adjustable beam like a Maglite only without the dreaded Doughnut-Hole Of Darkness on flood that Mags are infamous for, then this is the light for you. Despite the scratchy threads and not-nearly-1200lm brightness, it's worth the bux, and I'm pretty happy with them overall, as bought from San-Yi Sci&Tech.A reorder from someone else (Lucky Lady or something like that, forgot) yielded a really substandard pair of '98s. I demoed one light to my gf (who bought them), and it just stopped working after like 30sec. Battery's good, tailcap's good, so either the LED died, or the driver died. Not taking any chances, both went back to the seller, and now my gf's forever turned off (no pun intended) about flashlights.Lately, ie, from 2015 through 2016, it's been a race to the bottom as far as selling the cheapest crap that barely works. This is why I just use these lights as hosts and put in my own LEDs and drivers... 4500K-5000K XM-L2 chip and 2800mA NANJG driver, and you'll get the flashlight you *do* want. Getting a "1000lm", "1200lm", "1300lm" (do I hear 2000lm? 5000lm?!?) light with "Cree XML-T6" [sic] gouged into the side (lies and fraud from start to finish) just gets you the cheapest garbage that *may* light up... for a while.Or just buy a real Convoy or Thorfire and be done with it.

Great product for the price.
For the price, it is an excellent product. I use a flashlight every day, multiple times a day, and I've been very impressed with the SK98. Initially, I purchased this flashlight with rechargeable batteries that I was planning on using in a Fenix PD-30 flashlight that I had been using, and I wanted to get away from 126 batteries because even bought in bulk they get a little expensive. I figured out pretty quickly (they didn't fit) that the rechargeable batteries are not interchangeable, so I went with the cheap flashlight I bought on a whim. Things that I like about the flashlight are that it has an all aluminum body, I can focus the beam and use it as more of a spot light, and it fits in my pocket. Things I don't like are that the finish wears off fairly quickly (not a big deal) and the lens can be popped out of the housing, and the flashlight head has to be removed to pop it back into place (not that big of a deal). I ended up gluing the lens in place since I tend to abuse the begeezus out of my work flashlights, so one problem is taken care of, and I'm not overly worried about the finish coming off; it's a work flashlight. Within two weeks of getting the SK98 several of my co-workers have asked where I got them and have been impressed with the brightness and performance as well. I actually re-ordered the product for my co-workers, and so that my wife has a decent flashlight in her car in case of emergency. Battery life with a 3000 mAhr battery is about 2-3 days with frequent use on the high power setting (only one I really use). I have ordered myself the 5000 mAhr batteries, but have not yet got a chance to try them.

I think I got real ones
Purchased from the seller "Wilderness lighting" (FBA).The flashlight is very nice for its price and outputs blinding light. It does not show any signs of being fake (LED looks like a true CREE component). I have doubts about the 1200lm claim, as even the genuine CREE LEDs don't get that bright in a single module. I would believe a claim of about 500lm at the highest brightness setting. The metal feels nice and has some weight to it, and unscrewing the battery or lens feels smooth. The 18650 battery is also great to have, although you will not be able to run to the store to buy a battery if you have none charged when you need it. I picked up an Ultrafire 3000mAh battery and charger set which I'll review separately, but the pair I received are definitely built to take the 18650s. This is my first foray into using 18650 cells as a power source instead of alkalines or Ni-MH, and I hope to see Li-Ion become a standard in more portable electronics. This strikes a good balance of "cheap" and "not too cheap" like the $1-4 knockoffs you see in the wild that are bound to disappoint you. It's also good to have A-to-Z in case you get a fake, but the one I got looks pretty real.
