Pentair Manifold Bypass Valve Kit, MasterTemp/Max-E-Therm

The product arrived on time, intact, and it was a perfect fit. Other than the Pentair plastic used for construction, it seems to operate without exception.

Product fit perfectly and, given the price, I hope it lasts a long time. Non OEM brands are cheaper but reviews steered me to this OEM product.

One day my heater started making a loud banging noise that would shake the pool plumbing pipes. It was so loud and violent I thought something had to have gotten sucked into the blower and was banging around. After searching I found it is common when this bypass valve fails most of the water bypasses the heating coils. Causing the coils to get super hot and when water does enter the coils it instantly boils creating steam pockets. These expositions of steam are what causes the banging noise. The heater would also shut down after running for a few minutes. After replacing this no more banging and no more service heater light. Genuine Pentair part received. Wish they made this part more robust so it does not fail so often. Also pick up Pentair 77707-0120 Manifold O-Ring Replacement Kit when you are doing this because you will want to replace the o-rings.

This is the Achilles heel of the Pentair pool water heater. Fairly straightforward to replace - need to remove intake/outtake flange. Check out YouTube videos on how to get it down. Saved me $$$$ instead of calling a professional. The Pentair heater has onboard diagnostics to allow you to figure out failing electrical components such as sensors. Amazon has a great stock in the various parts. No need to be held hostage by “professional” pool companies to fix what seem to be complicated equipment.

Heater would come on loudly and cycle on and off every few minutes unless initially heating really cold water. Sounded like symptom of a bad bypass valve. When I got it open the existing valve was fine but a stray white o-ring fell out, must have come in from elsewhere and jammed the valve. Replaced with the new bypass anyway and heater is running fine now.

Despite purchasing from the Pentair store link and paying more, this is unlikely to be an OEM product. It looked similar to the original, but did not quite fit the receiving slot, requiring percussive persuasion to get it to seat the last 1.4 inch. I had a similar issue with another Pentair product for the same project, only other than being slightly different and not fitting as expected, it also leaked.

Used for a Pantair 250 btu, works perfect.
