What is missing from the field (and publication) of Horticulture
Many beautiful photographs and design ideas adorn this classic magazine. The "how-to" articles are useful and timely. Missing, as with most other gardening publication is a focus on native plant materials. It s the native herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees that support the insect, butterfly, mammal and bird populations where you live. Without plants that have something to offer insects, native bird populations will have nothing to find in your landscape; they will see desert and move on.We have the misconception that a plant unspoiled by a nibbling by insects is a beautiful sight. I say that it is a plant that is making no contribution to the ecosystem. It is merely chosen to quench our thirst for exotic and unique specimens, not intended to survive in the climate where it is planted. Our ecosystem can only thrive when we support it; this too can be a beautiful sight - along with a floor show; birds taking up residents, bees cross-pollinating and more.

The Best Gardening Magazine
I subscribe to several garden magazines, and this one is by far the best. It has Lots of interesting reading and practical gardening advice, plus all the pretty pictures the other magazines have. This is what I always wished my gardening magazines would be!

Interesting articles.
Interesting articles. After Rodales Organic Gardening quit I have been searching for a good garden magazine and this is it. Very pleased. I also take Fine Gardening and Mothers, will be quitting Mothers as this fits my interests better.

Great magazine when it shows up.
I have not received any magazines since July/August. I'm supposed to get 8 magazines a year. I have received 3.

Love the kindle version of the magazine
I am a long time Horticulture subscriber and was so happy to get the kindle version for my iPad. My only complaint is it sometime comes later than the print version. Most of my other subscriptions come earlier than the print version. I do like that it is not full of ads, mostly just the articles.

Getting better
One of the few gardening magazines getting better Horticulture is a joy. Their switch to less expensive paper, gives hope they will survive. I'm learning a lot from their articles on bugs and diseases.
