Great guide book to the Oregon Coast.
I am planning a fall trip to the Oregon Coast and wanted some inspiration for the trip and this is great for that and for guiding you to some popular spots. I also have Rick's book "Creative Visualization for Photographers" which I read every year before a big photo trip and this book is written in the same style which is more inspiration than instruction. The Oregon book is divided into three areas, Cannon Beach, Newport and Bandon and gives insight for photo spots, lodging and restaurants. Never heard of Strawberry Hill before but after reading the book it's high on my list, if you are planning a trip to the Oregon Coast this is a great resource.

A perfect travel companion,
Reading this book is like planning a photo road trip with perfect travel companions. The authors make traveling to the iconic sights on the Oregon coast easy by pointing out the best vantage points, places to stay and places to eat. The Sammon's offer photography tips specific to each location and suggest camera settings, lens selections, clothing advice (water-proof boots, etc.) and best time of day to capture sunsets, wildlife, waves and more. I especially appreciate their suggestions for capture techniques, camera apps and post-processing. Best of all, the Sammon's know how to make a road trip fun for not only the travelers, but for everyone they meet along the way. They are solid believers in striking up conversations with the folks they photograph — terrific advice. And the icing on the cake? The book is illustrated beautifully by terrific photography. Simply looking at the photos makes me want to pack my camera gear and hit the road. Great job Rick and Susan!

Good Oregon Coast Photo Travel Book with a Caveat
The book is well written and helpful. However the author seems obsessed with foot wear. Contrary to the book, bring a pair of over the ankle waterproof hiking boots, and you should be fine (unless, of course, you want to frolic in the deepening surf with $$$$$ of camera gear in hand - not prudent in my view). You do NOT need to bring separate pairs of hiking boots, water shoes, high waterproof boots, and surf shoes - way over the top.

Great Guide for the Oregon Coast and Photography
I only hope that Rick Sammon continues to create these brilliant Photo guides-I have the Route 66 guide and now the Oregon Coast guide. ( Plus many other of Rick's stunning books). I use these guide as a step by step manual to show you the best places to go and how to shoot them. I have been to Rick's workshop to the Oregon Coast (it's amazing) and I purchased the book even after my trip. This is to use the techniques in all my upcoming adventures. Even though this covers the Oregon Coast and all it's glory, the photo instruction applies to all vistas, wildlife and action photography. I highly recommend the book you will not be disappointed!

Very informative and well written but missing the main attraction on the coast
What a lovely information book with some stunning pictures. For the content it already has I would give it a 5 star. But I got the book hoping to read all about the areas to photograph around Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor and was surprised it was not mentioned anywhere in the book about the southern part of the coast which seems to be the favorite section for most landscape photographers. Anyone planning a trip to Oregon Coast should still buy this amazing book and be prepared to research on your own for the southern part of the coast. I have planned a 5-night coast trip and my last two nights are at Gold Beach to cover the area around Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor which is missing in this book.

Great!!
This tour of the Oregon Coast would not have been nearly as successful as it was, were it not for our friends, Rick & Susan Sammon. Besides being wonderful people, they are both expert photographers and world travelers. Very coincidentally, they published a terrific book, "The Oregon Coast Photo Road Trip", which came out in May, just in time for our adventure. It couldn't have been more timely or more helpful. It was full of great suggestions, not only about where the 'great shots' can be found, but was chocked full of other information, like where to stay and eat. I can't recommend this book any more strongly.

More than a photo book
Rick and Susan Sammon have created a masterpiece with their book, The Oregon Coast Photo Road Trip. Not only do they show you how and where to take the absolute best photos along the Oregon coast, they also provide a preplanned route for you to travel. In addition, they suggest places to stay, eat and explore in each stop along the way. When you are reading Rick’s photo tips from various locations along the coast it’s like he’s standing right next to you guiding you through the photography. Personally, I’ve never been much of an iPhone photographer but after reading and seeing what Susan does with her phone, I’m going to be pulling it out of my pocket more often. Susan describes her process of shooting and processing her shots with several apps. So if you are planning a road trip along the beautiful Oregon Coast, don’t leave home without this book! I highly recommend The Oregon Coast Photo Road Trip: How to Eat, Stay, Play and Shoot Like A Pro you won’t be disappointed!

Amazing and inspiring!
Going through this book brought back some fantastic memories of my time there last August. It’s a goldmine of images, locations and tips for both photographers and travelers alike. Simple yet creative photo tips that can be done by photographers of any skill, along with concise descriptions of the many amazing sites along the Oregon Coast, including lodging and food recommendations. The amazing photos are inspiring and reflect the beauty, awe and uniqueness of the area. Another amazing book, just as you would expect to get from Rick and Susan.
