Hylomar Blue 172-148 Universal Gasket Sealant 3.5 oz Tube

I've used Hylomar for nearly 30 years and it works great for some very specific jobs. I believe it was originally made to seal metal-to-metal machined surfaces where a gasket couldn't be used and that's were we use it. I'll also lightly coat both sides of some cork and fiber gaskets to help them seal better on irregular surfaces. It WON'T work like a big goober of silicone sealant does and it's not made to work that way. But it works great for the uses it was made for.

When I opened the tube there was clear fluid for awhile. After that stopped the product worked very well to stop any leaking plugs on the rear end of my motorcycle. My biggest complaint was that it took 9 days before the seller got my order to the shipper.

In certain applications this is an unbeatable product. A good example is my recent gasketing of my differential cover. It isn’t the greatest for high pressure containment, but for flanges and sump covers including engine oil/coolant galleys etc. it is just unbeatable. And, easier than most to clean off if you have to revisit a repair.

This stuff was designed to assemble Rolls Royce jet engines without gaskets! Race car teams use it. Nuff said.

expensive and worth it

This is the best stuff in my opinion to seal your oil pan or valve cover if in a tight situation or if no gasket is available. Used it on my oil pan and it hasn’t leaked for over 2 years now. Wipes off super easy for re application, no scraping necessary.
