200 Tricky Spellings in Cartoons: Visual Mnemonics for Everyone Paperback – June 15, 2016

As a dyslexic parent trying to help her dyslexic child I thought this book looked great. And to be fair it has helped DD learn 1 spelling. However their is no index and the words are not ordered alphabetically, so If we want to find a spelling we have to trawl through the whole book sometimes to discover that it's just not there. So we waste a lot of time. Not helpful. But the words and illustrations are done well so overall it could be so much better than it actually is. Disappointing.

This is a fantastic book that uses an alternative way of remembering spellings. If you or a KS2-5 child have problems remembering spellings and you like daft cartoons, this is the book to buy.Scissors (Cut It OR else) has always been a bad word to spell and now my daughter and I can spell it without panicking, although I do hear my daughter saying the punchline in my head in a gangster style. Another cartoon that helped me, is a set of two, affect and effect, until a year ago I had not entirely realised they were two words and now I understand the difference between them.

I am a dyslexia tutor and I think this is a fantastic resource for all ages and makes learning to spell very enjoyable. It also inspires individuals with literacy difficulties to think of their own ways to learn spellings.

Some of the ideas in this book were good but I felt that generally there was not much I could use for my students. Some of the mnemonics took a lot of thinking and working out so it could be easier to use with better examples.

I am sure this book is a hit with some readers but for me it is an odd one.. explanations and tricks given for some words are so-so .. i wish I could return it but hey ho!
