The Gentle Art of Smoking
R**R
Alfred Dunhill shares his Experience on Smoking
This book was published in 1954, is 177 pages long, measures 8.25" x 5.25" x 7/8" thick. Hard board covers and I believe was issued without a dust jacket. Published in NY by Putnam's sons. The book covers all the bases from the history of tobacco, to the history of the match, to tobacco for smoking by pipe, cigar and cigarettes, growing tobacco, cigarette manufacturing and pipe manufacturing. In fact much of the pipe manufacturing information in the book appears to be where Hacker got much of the info in his book The Ultimate Pipe Book. The little 1954 book is a great one and a quick read, will teach you thing you didn't know, and I would recommend it for those interested in pipe smoking.

A must read an old classic written by the man in his later years in 1954
It is not the most imformative Pipe smoking book but is quite an enjoyable read. One to add to your pipe book collection and a history of tobacco. Steve from NJ.

The gentle Art
Yes, it is good and all true but clearly outdated, read the new books out there esp. the books and adio versions by Rick Newcombe, they are at the top of the list!

It will still be a nice addition to my copy of Zino Davidoffs

Nothing original
Seemed a collection of data and boring stuff from lots of sources. It is a disjointed effort that lacks any magic about pipes and the accoutrements . The only saving grace for this boring writing is that it is a thin book.

Wonderful!
Simpy wonderful book. Truly old school appreciation of smoking. Speaks against the addictions of modern smoking, that people don't take the time to appreciate tobacco. Good read.
