I have read other books and had limited success in understanding key concepts. I liked Mr. Horton's conversational style and attention to detail. He purposefully doesn't burden the reader with more Kotlin language idioms than are needed for each current project. He explains concepts very well. He understands his core audience and gently addresses the limitations of beginning coders. Review: Great Intro to Android - This version of the book is almost the same as the latest version of the Android Studio and that makes it very easy to follow the instructions. There are a few places where the instructions are not clear but, on the whole the examples match what I see in the which is pretty good considering the size of the book, how long it takes to write something like this and how fast the development environments change. Examples provide good explanations for why things work the way they do and in general, this is a really good start to how to use the Android Studio.

Detailed
This book is Great!. I am joyfully engaged in it. Your detailed explanations of the workings of Android Studio and how Android Studio works with Kotlin, i.e., how the UI and functions work, and what goes where and why is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to go that deep. Your book was such an education about the underlying workings of Android Studio and the workings of Android Studio using Kotlin that I am able to tweak all examples to work on the later Android Studio version - Android Studio 4. Thanks again.

Book is out of date!
I am using the latest Android Studio version 4.1.1 which must be very different with respect to generated code etc than what is presented in the book. For instance there is no androidx check box on create projects as the book specifies. Create an empty activity project and it does not run. The book says it displays an empty window on the device but with Hello World. Nope - It fails to run with "Could not identify launch activity" error. I want to learn Kotlin but not sure this book will do it.

Update's
There's a lot that has been changed after update's. With google you can figure what the new name's & location's of feature's in android studio.

Out of date
This book is badly out of date. Its examples of Android Studio projects do not agree with the latest Android studio! Pity I cannot return it.

no useful at all
This book doesn't teach anything- the very first chapter says it teaches how to do a Hello World program, but there's no instruction on how to write the code and the sample code README states you can't just copy and paste. I have a MS in CS, so I know how to program- I got this book for my teenage son to work through and it's completely useless.

Out of date
With the quick changes that Google makes to the Android Studio, this book has become out of date. At present the Android Studio version is 3.6.3 the code in the book doesn't match the code used in the basic activities used in Android Studio. Authors of instruction books like this must understand that in the same way that apps must be updated regularly to be useable in modern devices with newer Android versions, so must the digital books they are publishing, otherwise the books become worthless in a short time after their publication.

Very easy to learn the concept from beginning.
I brought this book as kindle addition. The book writer language is very easy to understand. And the content of the book is very helpful for me, as I just started to learn the code. This book is very useful also for beginners. It covers every topic in details. So, if you are searching for a cotlin programming book, then you must give this book a try, trust me.

Clear, lucid and easily understood
I am only part way through this book at page 219 but I am thoroughly impressed by its content and layout not to mention having an edition that is relatively new and not out of date. The only negative point is that the publisher and author are not very helpful when it comes to answering questions about the book. I asked one technical question and it was suggested I buy the next edition of the book instead of actively engaging with me to answer the question and help me understand what it was I was struggling with. There are also errors in the book which I would like to confirm with the author but based on his reply to my first question, it probably wouldn't result in any constructive feedback sadly.
