The people reporting there is low gain are probably trying to use it like a boundary mic. I would say it's 30db gain, most of the cheap mics are 20db. I don't think they should have included the ridiculous desktop tripod, but it's not worth docking a star, it's designed for a mic scissor stand. Sadly it does not do 48KHz, it will only do 192KHz so it loses 2 stars, though I don't know if that matters so I will revisit this. All three are vocalists, and the two older ones are fairly used to singing with a microphone. The set up and use of this microphone is fairly easy (the kids, two college students and a freshman in high school, used it exclusively), and it looks great as well: very professional. The sound is pretty decent. I'm not an expert on this kind of equipment, and while this is ceertainly not the most expensive of microhpones on the market, I think it is would be good for limited applications especially for the anyone looking to record or transmit podcasts from home, but maybe not to record vocals for audiitions. The sound quality for singing is not necessarily adequate for a strong and loud soprano or tenor voice.
