Direct replacement for Craftsman Part #: 187292 or # 587125401 Lawn Mower Mandrel Assembly
Wow, this is an awesome price (paid $23.99 at the time)! I took a chance and hoped this would fit my mower. It fits perfect! I have a Craftsman GT6000 with a 54" deck (Model #917288613). The spindle went out and I checked online with sears parts direct and they only sell this in multiple pieces. If you purchase it individually it costs you well over $100 plus exorbitant S&H to replace the spindle (way too much money), but the problem is the parts numbers are not the same so as I previously said I took a chance and it fits and works perfect. As a matter of fact it actually appears to be better constructed (I really don't know, but it surely looks much better). Here are the compatible parts numbers I would have had to purchase and then I would have still had to put this thing together. (a) $59.89 Lawn tractor mandrel shaft assembly - Parts #: 187291 (b) $34.81 Lawn tractor mandrel housing - Parts #: 187281 (c) $15.99 Lawn tractor mandrel bearing - Parts #: 110485X (d) $4.61 Lawn & garden equipment washer - Parts #: 19131312 (or #582732501) This part (Stens 285-585 Spindle Assembly) fits like a glove. Exact same size (height, width, etc.). Pulleys, blades, belts, etc. all line-up as they should. No issues, easy to replace, and comes with all new hardware/bolts. I greased it up I've already put 3 hours on it. Much better to save some $$$ and purchase this one versus the expensive version that you would have to assemble. p.s. this is not a paid advertisement. I don't work for the seller; I'm just super happy that I took a chance not knowing if this would fit and it works great for much less money. And I wanted to pass on to anyone else that may need one............hat here is an alternate option if you don't feel like spending way too much money when this works fine and fits the same as the original part. UPDATE: I was looking for a piece to fix the seat on my mower and Sears incorrectly has the entire assemble (put together) listed under the Seat Schematic. Sears lists Part #: 187292 as the new part number substituting the previous part # 587125401 Lawn Mower Mandrel Assembly. I'd still purchase it through this seller because the value (sears wants approx. $50) for the same thing.

They fit and work
This fits my LGT2554. There is something I don't know how many folks know. The spindle has a bearing at the top and the bottom. The spindle shaft goes through these bearings, pulley on top, blade at the bottom. You can add grease through the top of the shaft into the void in the spindle housing. Here's the problem.... The 2 bearings are sealed bearings. You can grease away all you want but you are only putting grease in this void. It doesn't reach the bearings due to the seal on both sides. This applies to this type spindle, commercial heavy duty equipment is different. Next time you have a bearing go out in one of your spindles, take it apart, you'll see what I'm talking about. Adding grease through the zert at the top of the spindle does nothing. Have you ever removed a seal from a sealed bearing? It's easy, a simple pick will work. What you will see with most bearings is very little grease. Thus the short life. If you want to make a sealed bearing last longer you should add grease to the bearing. This can be done in a few ways quite simply. If it's a rubber/plastic seal simply be gentle when removing the seal on one side, add grease and replace the seal. You can do the same with the metal sealed bearings just don't bend the seal. Both types of seals were simply pushed into place after the bearing was made, they will flex enough to remove and replace easily. Or you can poke a tiny hole in the seal and insert a grease needle to apply more grease. Seal the hole with silicone or such and your bearings will last a lot longer. there are brands that do better with the amount of grease used but nearly all I've looked at should have had more grease in them. This applies to any sealed bearing, not just the bearings used in these spindles. If you want to repair these spindles as I'm going to do on a OEM spindle that the top bearing on one of the 3 spindles (bought on Amazon) didn't last a full year, 6203-2RS is the top bearing, 6204-2RS is the bottom bearing. As long as the shaft and spindle housing are in good shape there's no reason you can't rebuild them. Both bearings together would run about $5 total, give or take and can be found online or locally easily as they are a common bearing, nothing special. As for this item, it fits and works, we'll see how long it lasts but should be similar to OEM. It came with the required 4 bolts to attach the spindle to the mower deck, the pulley nut and spacer that goes under the pulley.

I put this spindle on my Husqvarna LGTH26V54 mower deck. It fit perfectly (center spindle) and after I put some grease in it I cut grass for a couple of hours and the spindle wasn't warm so as far as I know it worked perfectly. Just remember to hold the blade and loosen the nut on top of the bad spindle before taking off the blade and removing the pully. Then remove the old spindle from the deck.

After shattering the original seven year old housing from hitting a tree root, I ordered this and it showed up in a couple of weeks. It looks and fits just like the original, I unscrewed what was left of the broken part and put this in place using the four supplied bolts. I did take the deck off for this purpose. I've seen some comments that the bearings are sealed, but I hadn't read that at the time so I pumped in some grease, put on the belt and blade and went mowing. It's had a few hours of use so far and no problems.
