Pretty Disappointed! Shame on Amazon! (**Edited**)
After saving up some money I ordered the Lamy 2000 with excitement and great anticipation. Well...I received a pen that had a very visible ink splotch on the nib, with a further inspection using a 10x loupe revealing dried up ink residues all over the nib and a nice piece of a paper strand stuck between the nib. I immediately assumed it was a returned defective pen that was turned around and sold as new hoping someone wouldn't know any better - yes I purchased a NEW pen but got a USED defective pen; defective because sure enough, upon inking it up, the nib skips on all the up strokes...100% of the time, no exception. The nib was obviously defective from the factory. I inspected the nib and everything was aligned correctly but it seemed like there was a bit more "material" on one of the tines. What if I was gifting this to somebody?? Actually I did gift one for a business gift last year before I even bought it for myself and tried it out this year. Who knows if that one was defective too. I heard there was quality control issues with these pens and that they are either a hit or miss but unfortunately I bit the dust on this one. Shame on Lamy and especially shame on Amazon for repackaging and reselling me a defective pen. I'm going on a long trip overseas and ordered this last minute hoping to bring it with me as an incentive to do some serious writing. Now it's too late to return it and get a new one before I leave and this leaves me even more disappointed. I was really, really looking forward to using it throughout my time away. I have not contacted the seller. I have contacted Amazon and they were very helpful, as always. I will update this review as to how this issue is handled. Very, very disappointed! **Edit: Turns out Amazon handles the returns/shipping for the seller and they are responsible for this mishap. Too bad. My previous experiences have all been very good with Amazon but I guess things happen from time to time. I was, as expected, issued a free return. I don't really know what else could have been done but I still have a sour taste after this transaction ***Edit #2*** Since this review is mainly intended to review the product and not the service I came back and changed my rating for this pen to 5 stars. I couldn't be happier with this fountain pen, after receiving a properly functioning unit. I will admit I did not think I would keep it at first but it has easily become my favorite pen. There are so many reviews covering this product, so I will briefly highlight the points that were the most important for me: The pen is understated so it does not attract too much attention although it obviously a quality pen; Maintenance is incredibly simple as the pen unscrews in all of the places necessary for quick cleaning and drying ( I love that the nib is pushed back for removal instead of pulling out...this makes it much easier and lessens the chance of breaking it). It is very balanced and writes smoothly, etc, etc,

Lamy 2000 vs Lamy Safari
I was really hesitant on ordering this pen. I had originally planned on going for something more expensive, like a Visconti Homo Sapiens, but I decided to give this Lamy a try due to it's overwhelmingly positive reviews on the internet. A lot of people say that they have a lot of pens, but they keep going back to the 2000 for some reason. I'll help you understand a few of those reasons. First off, this pen is way better in person than any picture I've seen online. I wasn't really a fan of the hooded nib look, and the finish just looked kind of blah. I was excited about the gold nib, and trying out the smoothness that I've seen people rave about. I ordered the pen, and was pleasantly surprised at what I got: 1. The box is nice. It's paper, but still nice. I feel like the design is fitting for the pen. 2. The pen has a nice weight to it, and feels much more solid than the Safari. When full of ink, it's a medium-weight pen. Not nearly as heavy as some other monster pens, and I would say that the weight is perfect. 3. The brushed finish of the Makralon exterior of the pen is fantastic. It honestly almost feels like a brushed stone, as it's very smooth but cool to the touch. If you look close you can actually see the marks of the brushing. I would say this pen is more on the satin side than the completely matte, but it's definitely not shiny. I was not expecting to like the finish so much, but I really have a hard time not touching it. Very unique, and it feels like quality. You really have to see it and hold it in your hands to understand what I'm talking about. The metal section near the nib is also brushed, and feels exactly like a cooler version of the Makralon body. It's very seamless, the tolerances are incredible. You don't feel any ridges or anything. It's very comfortable to grip regardless of if you have a small cramped grip (like mine) or hold your pen higher. 4. The nib is a huge step up from the Safari steel nib. It's wetter than my Safari, but it's so smooth. I feel like I need to use half as much pressure as I did with the Safari, and the pen really glides on Rhodia paper. For this reason alone, I don't think I could go back to my Safari. This is almost enough to sell me on the pen by itself. 5. People talk about a "sweet spot" on the 2000, but I haven't really had issues with that. It writes well in any way that I hold the pen. My Safari was more finnicky about how I held it. In closing, I wasn't expecting to like this pen. Part of me didn't want to like it. Then I got it, and I completely understand why it's been around for so long and why so many people use it. Aesthetically, it's very nice. From a few steps back it looks like a normal, boring black pen. But when you get close it really has a ton of character, and it feels rugged enough to be a daily writer. I love it. I consider this a no-brainer if you're a Safari owner looking to get a nicer pen. You won't be disappointed, and you may even find yourself neglecting the rest of your other pens.

Highly functional; a little expensive
I bought this pen in June of 2021; so I've had it for about nine months of experience as of the writing of this review. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife who gifts me pens on important occasions. As a result, I have a rather large rotation. I use the Lamy 2000 for about four or five days each month. The pen did not perform up to my expectations. It skipped excessively and laid down a weak and inconsistent line. I found myself having to force ink down into the nib by twisting the converter to move the ink along. Before writing a negative review, I decided to take the ink out of the evaluation. I found choosing the right ink makes a difference. At first, I filled the pen with Montverde ink. The nib is fine so it is sensitive to having a good quality ink. While the pen was filled with the Monteverde ink, the performance of the pen upset me. For me, function is more important than form. I will comment on the form later. If a pen won't lay down a nice clean line, what is the point in having a $200 pen? (I bought the pen before it went on sale.) I switched to a Private Reserve Velvet Black ink. Problem solved. The ink now flows wet, smooth, and thick. The thickness is just right for the fine nib. Now the pen is a pleasure to write with. The gold nib is fantastic. It feels so smooth as it lays down nice, wet, clean lines on the paper. If the pen you buy disappoints you, I suggest trying a different higher quality ink like Pilot or Private Reserve. It has a nice appearance. Others have praised it and the pen deserves the praise. It has a brushed aluminum look. The cap and body are black, the grip is silver and the clip is silver. All the parts have a high-quality appearance. It has a piston feed which takes some getting used to. If you want to fill the pen, you must untwist it out of the pen, dip it in the ink, and twist it close. The covered nib is an interesting throwback to days when they made pens that way. I like this pen. Is it worth $200? I don’t think so. If you can find it for $150 or less, then I think it makes sense.

Great Pen (GOAT)
The Lamy 2000 is one of the best writing pens I own, bar none. The barrel, cap, and part of the grip section are made of fiber reinforced polycarbonate with a brushed texture, so those unavoidable scuffs and scratches won't show as much. The 14k nib is semi hooded, which limits line variation, but also keeps the nib from drying out quickly. The nib is also unique to this pen; every other Lamy fountain pen can trade nibs with any other Lamy fountain pen. The Lamy 2000 nib is also available in more options than the not Lamy 2000 nibs, including stub and oblique nibs, directly from Lamy (or one of their authorized resellers). Once you learn how far you may "roll" the pen to the left or right of center (it'll stop writing if you roll it too far), and stay in that "sweet spot", this pen will write for you until the ink runs out. Thanks to the internal piston filling system, re-inking your Lamy 2000 is quick and easy. Ink flow is medium wet, and consistent. This pen was designed in the mid-1960s, and sold, virtually unchanged, since 1966. This pre-dates the invention of shimmering inks (inks with very small particles of glitter mixed into the liquid ink). Since there was no need to disassemble the pen back in the day, because ink was only water, dye, and MAYBE some kind of lubricant, the piston assembly was not designed to be user removable for cleaning...so don't try to remove the piston yourself just to clean out any residue. Yes, you CAN remove the piston, but getting it put all back together may be impossible, so...please just don't. Avoid difficult to clean inks, and just enjoy reliable and consistent writing with regular inks, please. If you must use shimmer inks, iron gallus inks, or some of the more sticky permanent inks, please use another pen, like a dip pen, to ensure your Lamy 2000 will continue to provide good service for decades!

Great pen but….
Great pen. Smooth writer. Feels great in the hand. Feels like I can write all day with it and not tired out. Product arrived only in the inner Lamy box with no paper work. The box wasn’t secured it was just open in the Amazon bag. This was my second attempt at buying this pen. The first came in the full package but was a ball point pen. Not the fountain pen and I had to send that one back. This one writes a thick line so I’m not sure which nib is on it I ordered a fine but it seems like a medium I would have to empty it and take it apart to verify.

Fantastic pen
The Lamy 2000 is simply fantastic. Overall it is a perfect pen for daily use, being comfortable to write with for long periods of time due to its shape, weight, and nib. Pros: - The weight and balance are superb. It balances perfectly in the center when posted (when you place the cap on the back of the pen while writing), this makes it easy to extremely comfortable to hold and use. - Construction: It is extremely well made. The piston in the base of the pen blends in perfectly with the rest of the body, nothing breaks up the sleek lines of the body and cap. The makrolon material making up the majority of the pen is visually pleasing and strong, and combined with the superb shape of the pen is both grippy and comfortable to write with. There is one complaint I have about the Makrolon, but I will get to that in the cons section. - The nib is great. It writes well, smooth and neither too wet nor too dry, it hits a sweet spot between the two. On a side note, I am aware that some people have had problems with the nib, and it is not unheard of to get a Lamy 2000 with a mediocre nib. In my case, and for both of the Lamy 2000's that I have owned, the nib has been great. - Aesthetics: This pen is beautiful in my opinion. It is sleek and elegant, simple and austere. It is not flashy or particularly eye catching, nor does it look outwardly like a particularly expensive pen, unlike a Mont Blanc or similar. But everything it does aesthetically is extremely well-done. - The cap: Most fountain pens seem to have a twist off cap, but this one snaps on and off with a simple pull or push, and does so with a satisfying click. Usually, twist off caps are put onto fountain pens to prevent the cap from coming off in the pocket, as a fountain pen nib will bleed ink into the fabric of a pants or jacket pocket and stain it. From my experience coming from a pen with a twist off cap, the Lamy's cap stays on better and is easier to remove and recap. I have never had the Lamy's cap come off in my pocket or briefcase, while my Platinum 3776 has done so multiple times and gotten ink onto my notebooks. Cons: - For some, the price is an issue. Most people will not bother with a fountain pen, much less one that costs $120-$200, and that is understandable. For that reason, I did not give this pen full marks for value for money, but if you like fountain pens and are looking to get into higher end pens, this is a fantastic one to get. In my opinion, this pen is 100% worth every penny. - This pen can be slippery. When you are not writing with the pen, its rather smooth surface can be slippery, so be careful with how you hold and change grips with it. That said, it is more grippy than most other pens that do not have rubber grips. Final thoughts: If you are looking for a great fountain pen for everyday use, this is your pen. I am a college student and use it for notes during long lectures, and even after 2 hours of note taking, my hands do not hurt like they do with my other pens and pencils. For a higher end fountain pen, it has great value for money. The construction is perfect and the nib is fantastic. My previous daily pen was a Platinum 3776, which I enjoyed quite a lot. But this pen blows the 3776 out of the water in every category except price. That said, I got my 3776 for $100 on ebay, but on Amazon it goes for $120 or so, and most of the time the Lamy 2000 goes for $140-$150. In hindsight I wish I spent the extra money and just got this pen, as it is better in just about every way from my experience. If you are thinking of getting a pen in this price range, this is the one to get.

Excellent Work Pen
I have several Lamy fountain pens. My previous models for the less expensive Safari and Al-Star, which I purchase only to get a sense of the manufacturer's product quality. I have used the other pens for several months before investigating a better Lamy Pen. The Lamy 2000 appeared to be a good, medium priced pen option. I ordered the fine point nib. I am very pleasantly surprised about this pen. The quality and sturdiness of this pen allows me to be very comfortable with its daily use in or out of the office. The cap snaps on and off. While using the pen, I prefer to post the cap on the end of the pen to provide additional weight on top of the pen. The extra weight allows the pen to rest in the crook of my hand and provides me better nib control. The pen's girth is a little stocky, just right for my writing grip. The diameter is 0.51". A typical "Flair" pen is 0.42" diameter. The last 0.9" of the pen, immediately before the nib, is a smooth brushed stainless steel section that would allow people that like to position their fingers close to the nib an opportunity to do so, without touching any portion that has ink. It took me a few minutes to understand how to fill the pen. This is a bottle ink only pen, which I have several, so there are typically only a couple fill variations. The trick to the Lamy 2000 is the almost hidden plunger control. The end of the pen unscrews. This is not unlike many other bottle ink pens however Lamy has machined the pen end so precisely that you cannot see that there are two sections. This information is not in the pen instructions. In order to fill the pen, unscrew the pen's end counterclockwise and the inside plunger will recede. As stated earlier, I ordered a fine tip nib. This is equivalent to the medium nibs I have on several Japanese fountain pens. If you like the fine tip nibs found on Japanese pens, I suggest you order an extra fine nib. Overall, I am very happy with his pen. It is well constructed and I anticipate many years of use. January 11,2013: I have also purchased the extra fine (EF) model too. I like both the fine and extra fine nibs. The EF is very close to the Japanese fine nib pens. I am using a Namiki Iroshizuku ink in the EF and a Noodler's permanent ink in the fine. Both are flowing very smoothly. I remain happy with these Lamy pens.

I was sold a used pen fo new.
I ordered this pen in December but because of freezing weather I didn't order the Lamy ink to use in the pen, deciding instead to drive to a store many miles away to buy the ink so I wouldn't have a problem with frozen ink. The pen arrived and the guarantee paperwork was not included with the pen. Also the little paper tab stating the nib size which is usually attached to the clip was missing. The pen itself looked pristine and appeared new. I finally made the trip to buy ink for the pen and when I was preparing to add ink I noticed on examination with a 10X loupe that the nib had fibers stuck to it. I filled the pen with distilled water to clean the fibers and that's when I discovered that the pen had previously been used with blue ink. I have apparently been sold someone else's reject as a new pen. On writing with this pen the ink flows like a broad nib. I don't know if that's just how the Lamy fine nib flows or if it really is a broad. I would have to disassemble the pen by unscrewing the front section and pulling the nib out to see the manufacturer's stamp to see if it really is a fine, something I'm hesitant to do. Since I've missed the return date, I'm just stuck with this pen and feeling pretty cheated. I ordered new, expected new, and got someone else's reject and I'm not even sure if that reject had the fine nib I ordered. l

Amazing fountain pen
This is an excellent fountain pen. The pen posts well and writes very smooth. I love the material that the fountain pen is made of. I have many other high end fountain pens but the Lamy 2000 is the best especially considering the price. The section is very comfortable even in long writing session. The clip is very nice too. I bought a fine nib version and I find it fine enough and smooth. Ink flow is very even from beginning to the end of a page. I love to write with my pen posted and the cap post very smooth deep and securely. I wished I would have bought the pen sooner.

A “Must Have” Iconic Pen For Any Fountain Pen User.
I did a lot of research before I purchased the pen. I should have bought long before that! It’s a beautiful pen, well designed and well made. It sure lives up to it’s reputation as an iconic pen! It is now my daily workhorse pen. Alexis

Iconic bauhaus design, smooth writing experience from a great brand
Simple minimalist packaging. Great performance out of the box. Smooth Fine writing experience. Compared to my LAMY Aion Fine the line width is indistinguishable. So a consistent LAMY fine line. The writing experience is smoother on the 2000. Very nice to write with. I like the writing experience with my Aion Fine but the overall aesthetics, feel, and writing experience is better, if the price is not an issue. It’s more than twice the price of the Aion. But look out for deals. Overall very pleased.
