Snappy, great quality and well built - with super quiet operation
The product shipped in another box with the bundled ethernet and HDMI leads. I noticed that the player itself doesn't include an HDMI lead in the box, hence I chose this bundle. The HDMI and ethernet cable aside, the player itself is incredibly well built, heavy and solid.Pros include:Great quality construction - with reduced vibration. I noticed none in my cabinet.High quality video outputs with Dolby Vision, HDR10 (not HDR10+), Dolby® Digital, Dolby TrueHD, DTS®, and DTS-HD Master Audio.Ability to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs, 3D and standard Blu-ray discs, SACDs, DVD-Audio, DVDs, CDs and pretty much any discs you throw its way.Upscales non 4K video to 4K.2x HDMI outputs - one specifically for audio output - so you can route to a receiver.WiFI and Ethernet support for inbuilt streaming Apps. I personally would use my Apple TV instead.Bluetooth connectivity for headphones and speakers with LDAC support.Front panel USB port for file playback.Remote can control your TV as well - and its convenient to be able to control my TV/soundbar/player with one controller.Cons include:Dolby Vision support needs to be toggled on and off in the Settings menu before playing back a disc. Otherwise, it will output Dolby Vision for non supported content resulting in less than ideal picture. No HDR10+ support - although with Dolby Vision support, this is not too much of an issue unless you have a Samsung TV.Overall I believe this provides exceptional value for money and I would recommend this over the X700 if you need Dolby Vision support and DVD-Audio support. In addition, it has better build quality. It also has HDMI 2.0b vs the HDMI 2.0a port the X700 is equipped with.Perhaps there are Panasonic players that provide great quality video and have HDR10+ support, but they are substantially more expensive.

Solid, Quality heavy unit, works as intended.
Good unit, rather large but built well. Plays DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K perfectly well. The remote could be designed better and there is lack of streaming apps available for the unit. The interface is dated and a bit primitive but does work as intended. Region free hacks are available but pricey and complex if you do not have technical skills. If you just want to play discs then this unit is a good choice.

Really good Blu-ray player
Good price and performance for a budget blu-ray player . Only 4 stars because the outer box ( double boxed ) was like it was an after thought. The outer box looked like it was old and reused. The tape was half off exposing the inner box. Update - last used around Christmas time (2024 ) worked fine . Tried to watch a dvd last night -player doesn't work . I have a dedicated movie room that I keep all electronics unplugged when not in use so there is no chance a power surge could have effected it . Oh well, got about a year out of it . No more cheap players for me

Sony Top-Shelf Blu-Ray
Sony put an excellent package together. You get the player, HDMI cables and LAN cable. Sony products are designed to work together. I connected my player to my Sony A95L. I upgraded the HDMI cables to Colbalt 48's. They are phenomenal, and you truly can see and hear the difference in the picture and audio. The player and TV will pair together and can be controlled by one remote, if they are both Sony. The player puts out sharp picture, deep blacks, vivid color, 4K and up. The player's audio gives you the coveted Dolby Atmos, which is just incredible. Do connect high-end HDMI cables that can transfer a huge amount of data that gives you a larger bandwidth so you get the 4K video and Dolby Atmos sound. The player is good to go with eARC capabilities. Sony has an outstanding Blu-Ray player, it preforms greatly with a Sony Smart Google TV and an HDMI audio driven sound bar with surround speakers and subwoofer. You will not get the wide range of Dolby Atmos sound if you use digital optical. However, digital optical is still produces excellent audio.

Incredible sound improvement; easy setup
I bought this upgraded Sony UBP-X800M2 Bluray player to replace a much older Sony player that just wasn’t playing movies well anymore. After watching the price fluctuations over the past couple of years and reading very mixed reviews, I decided to take a chance and buy one.The player I ordered came with a high quality HDMI cable (which I used) and an Ethernet cable (that I didn’t need). Paying the extra $10 was worth it for the HDMI cable, which is really nice. The owners manual is straightforward, and I had no difficulties hooking the player up with my Yamaha AV receiver and getting it set up with Wi-Fito my home router. It comes with a remote control, but I found my home theater system universal remote controls this player without any changes from my old Sony player.I loaded up a fresh Bluray version of Top Gun: Maverick to test it out, and I was absolutely blown away by the huge improvement in sound quality over my old player. I have long suspected my old player just couldn’t adequately decode the modern Blu-ray Discs, and this new player confirmed it. My TV is an old projection type set, so I cannot comment about video performance, but the sound is magnificent. I really need to replace my TV so I can fully appreciate what this player can do.Aside from playing movies, this player can also directly access Amazon Prime Video and Netflix if you subscribe to either of those services. I have an Amazon Fire TV box, and this player eliminates needing to use it to watch Prime videos or listen to music on Prime. The player can also directly access YouTube. It does not, however, have the ability to install other apps. The only negative is the player did become totally unresponsive when I tried to turn it on another time. This resolved after I unplugged power and reconnected it. This has, so far, only happened once, but it does raise my level of concern since there are legions of negative reviews reporting the same issue in this model before the M2 upgrade. The player arrived with the most current firmware already installed, so I’m hoping the one freeze was an isolated incident.Overall, I really like this Sony Bluray player. If your movies are not looking and sounding good anymore, certainly consider upgrading your player.
