Microsoft Remote Control and Receiver for Media Center PC with Windows (A9O-00007)

I love media center and this remote works great for it.I find the controls intuitive, though some people might find some of the frequently used buttons (jump forward/back) rather small.We've had this for 4 years and never had a problem. The only time there are communication issues is when we need to change the batteries - which doesn't seem to happen often. I haven't kept track, but with some things I get that "the batteries are dead AGAIN" feeling, and I don't with this.

I have bought around 10 of these remotes for my house and for various family members. They have held up well. Too bad they are very hard to find now. NOW PEOPLE ARE SELLING CHEAP FAKES WHICH ARE MISSING THE TV POWER BUTTON AT TOP LEFT CORNER AND THE VOLUME CAN NOT BE PROGRAMMED ON THESE CHEAP FAKES LIKE ON THE REAL A9O-00007 MICROSOFT REMOTES.

Summary:This remote control has a poorly designed button layout with too many very small buttons used for frequently used functions. Plan on looking down at your remote ALOT when you want to do simple tasks like 'pause', 'forward', 'go back', etc. It works fine, but the design and button layout is lacking.Details:I bought this remote to replace the remote control I received with my HP Media Center, wich didn't have backlighting and the buttons/keys were not arranged or sized for easy use. I bought this Microsoft remote contol because it looks similar to the remote control for my Tivo (which is great). The MS remote is a bit better than the HP remote, but it still has too many buttons arranged poorly and with many keys the same size or where the button size isn't related to its importance or frequency of use. For example, the Mute button is probably one of the largest keys on the remote (I rarely Mute - at least intentionally), but 'stop', 'pause', 'fwd', 'back' are all the same very small size and arranged in a circle. You can't tell by touch or feel what does what. The 'go back' button is very close to rewind button -- so I accidently exit my movie instead of just 'rewinding'. The remote does have backlighting, so at least see you what tiny key you need in a dark room. Overall, its ok, but far from great.

This remote really transforms the Windows Media Center.But it is so weird looking and ugly!I'll keep the infrared receiver and program the functions of this remote into a universal remote and will be happy.Check the shipping price before you click through. In my case, shipping was about 50% of the product's cost. Admittedly it was received in record time. FYI

We purchased a different remote control and receiver earlier, and while that did what it said on the box, the one thing it didn't do was act as an infrared blaster (IR blaster) for controlling other devices under the Media Center's guidance.Absolutely have to have one of those, and it didn't come with the "All-in-Wonder" TV / video card we bought.

The remote came one day sooner than expected. I used it on a home built Win7 computer with a Comcast DTA cable box. Setup was easy, just plugged in the usb Win 7 recognized it and loaded drivers. Setup the cable box through Media Center and the remote controls everything. I'm very happy with it.

Great remote, great seller. Package came on time. There is nothing wrong with the product, but it did not come in the original package box. It looked new in it's plastic packagings, but it still gave me some doubts. Other than that, everything was good.
