Incredible Tech. People are sleeping on this.
I just received my glasses from Zenni using the Refraction #s from 5 days in a row of a couple of tests a day. The first few tests I didn't know what I was doing, so I'm glad I learned more and waited before ordering.Biggest thing to know: When testing you need to be tricking your vision into "distance vision" your eyes should be focusing on the nontesting eyes focal length. I find this easy when looking at a friend or significant other's face, as your mind kind of already knows what they are supposed to look at and focuses on them easier. I like to have my gf stand like 10 feet away, tricking my eyes into distance vision while peforming the test. This makes it super easy to see both her and the bars in the center of my vision while doing it. I am now testing very consistently. and my RX from the glasses is perfect!Really phenomenal device. The way it pairs everytime before testing also is great for sharing with family members. Can't wait to see what the future holds for home care stuff like this!

Severe astigmatism prescription spot on!
ASTIGMATISM. Tl;dr, yes, it works beautifully for astigmatism. This product has a ton of reviews, and I spent hours looking at them before buying it, being very skeptical. However, I want to add my own review to the pile because something was missing from the reviews when I tried to look through them.My astigmatism is very severe. Different high strength each eye, different axis each eye, and I am astronomically sensitive to the prescription being *just right* or I get excruciating migraine headaches. Most of my opticians hate me because I'm the customer that will keep bringing a pair of glasses back 3 times and making them adjust them or remake the lenses entirely because it's off-center, or the prescription isn't quite right. Now on to the product - I bought this because during COVID, despite that my old glasses were clearly out of date and my headaches were unmanageable, because I live in a household with very high risk people amd we are lucky enough to be able to work from home, it wasn't worth the risk to go to the eye doctor. So hours of research, blog posts, and read reviews later, this device is purchased.I received it quickly, the instructional video was clear, and I did the perscribed set of tests once, measured my PD with the included frames, all from my living room in my pajamas. Comparing it to my old perscription, the astigmatism was spot on. It recommend 0.25 stronger in each eye and about 5 degree difference in axis on each eye compared to my 1 year old exam, which is more than enough difference for me to cause the headaches.Off to zenni to order the glasses, they arrived today, and what a world of difference. Headache gone, clear vision again, and with the device and online glasses ordering, I STILL spent less than I would have at the eyedoctor, WITH good insurance.I took 1 star off because the test also recommended a very slight farsighted reading glasses prescription with the results, but didn't explain the difference between reading glasses or normal glasses, that for reading glasses you normally want a 3mm narrower PD, etc. It's unclear to me if I have developed some mild farsightedness given that I never have had any in my life, it's entirely possible, but for now I left those values off my perscription and I'm doing just fine and I'm very happy with my new specs. The complaint here is not explaining the difference between the values for those not familiar with what all these numbers mean. I also wish the PD measurement gave you the option to check for asymmetrical values.Overall, fantastic product that works much better than I ever expected for measuring astigmatism, and my resulting glasses have me headache free for the first time in months.

Cheaper than an optician, and you can do it from home
I needed new glasses but kept putting off arranging an eye exam because I don't have a car, so getting around is a bit of a hassle. I jokingly said something to a friend (who offered to drive me to an optometrist) that, with everything else you can do online these days, you ought to be able to do a vision exam. Then I found out that in some states you can actually do that (not my state), and while I was Googling on the subject, I discovered EyeQue Vision Check. It seemed pretty legit, comes with a 30-day guarantee, and costs no more than an ordinary eye exam, so I decided to try it.I ordered from Amazon to take advantage of quick Prime delivery. In the box were the VisionCheck gadget that you attach to your smartphone, as well as a micro-USB cord to charge it, a leaflet that explains how to install the phone app and pair it up with the gadget, and a pair of plastic eyeglass frames that you use with the app to gauge your pupillary distance (a necessary measurement that eye doctors don't usually put on a written prescription). Then I went through the training, to get used to the way the device works. (The training takes you through a partial exam to get you used to the process). After I got used to the process, I completed about 8 complete tests over the next two or three days, as the more tests you complete the more accurate the numbers will be. I compared these numbers to my previous doctor-written eyeglass prescription and they were close enough that I felt confident about ordering a pair of new glasses from Zenni Optical.Just for fun, I also tried out the pupillary distance gadget, EyeQue PD Check --- however, since my eyes are slightly crossed and my vision is monocular (my eyes don't focus stereoscopically, so I shift from one eye to the other depending on the distance of what I'm looking at) -- I knew it would not produce a usable number; I have to measure each eye when I'm looking straight forward *with that eye* and then add the two numbers together. The Eyeque system isn't capable of that, but since I already knew my pupillary distance, I just used that number when I ordered my glasses, as I've done many times in the past. For anyone with normal, binocular vision though, the PD Check system should prove super-easy to get an accurate measurement of the distance between your pupils. My new Zenni's specs arrived a and my vision through both the reading distance and computer distance parts of the lens is crisp and clear. The next day, though, I realized that the "computer distance" progressive lenses are basically just prescription reading lenses with a longer field of magnification -- there is no upper field for distance vision, so I'm still wondering how accurate the VisionCheck "eyeglass numbers" will be for ordinary distant vision.UPDATE MAY 2020: I got in on a beta test program that provides a pair of "tester" glasses so that you can double-check the prescription before you commit to spending a lot of money on a new set of glasses. This came in handy for me, because I discovered that my recently purchased "computer" progressive lenses don't provide a field for distance vision, the way ordinary progressive lenses do, so I still needed another pair of glasses and was about to order a cheap pair online. Before I could do that, my Eyeque beta "try one" arrived and I was delighted to find that my Eyeque "eyeglass numbers" produce crystal clear vision for distance. Plus, they sturdy enough to keep as a backup pair, and I can wear them until my new Zenni's progressives arrive.I can honestly say I think EyeQue VisionCheck probably produces as accurate a measurement as most eye exams performed in optometrists' offices, so I won't hesitate to recommend it to others. I'd say anyone who learns to use the gadget and the testing system properly, following the directions in the instructional video to a T, will get good results.
