An extraordinary read about a child and mother who refused to give up on her vision.
If you, your child, a friend or a loved one has a problem with their vision, please don't just accept it. Like physical therapy or speech therapy, vision therapy can and does helps children and adults recover or learn the skills needed to have enjoy normal vision. Neuroscientists continue to gain understanding into how the brain works, and these advances explain why vision therapy works.Jillian and Robin Benoit have penned this book and its companion, "Dear Jillian, Vision Therapy Changed My Life Too!", which has a forward by Larry Fitzgerald, All Pro NFL Wide Receiver, who also attributes his success to Vision Therapy. My own son's inward eye turn (esotropia) was completely resolved by vision therapy, and he needed no surgery. He has straight eyes, normal vision, and full depth perception.Thank you, Jillian and Robin. Your story helps parents understand there is hope for their child.

lazy eye
My youngest son was diagnosed at 6with lazy eye and at that time the eye doctor told us we had til he was about 8 to try and correct this as a result he suggested patching his good eye to make his "lazy one" work. After 6 months or so we went back and that doctor told us it was probably too late anyway.I took him to a different doctor who said that no it wasn't to late lets try a drop in his good eye that will blur his vision in that eye again trying to make the lazy eye work harder. Then while I was having my eye appointment at a different eye doctor he told me about a clinic where they do vision training and that they have had amazing results with lazy eye and training it to work. As a result and after only 2 months of working on training his lazy eye he is already reading two lines down and it is that doctor who suggested this book.I havent finished reading it parlty because of my work hours and partly because I can relate to some degree and it makes me cry to read what she went thru.I would suggested this book to anybody diagnosed with vision problems and with that vision training and every eye doctor not on board with this should be.

A MUST read for EVERYONE!
I had strabismus surgery when I was 3. All my life I struggled in school, either fell asleep or got horrible headaches while reading & had debilitating anxiety. Finally at 24 years old I got tested for learning disabilities. Come to find out most of my problems were due to the way my eyes were working (or not working, in my case). I was recommended to get Vision Therapy, and found an amazing doctor. At my first appointment I saw an ad on the wall for "Jillian's Story" I instantly bought a copy. I was amazed at the statistics of how many children are misdiagnosed with learning/behavioral disorders, when really it could be that their eyes don't function properly. I wish that more insurance companies supported VT, so many lives could be completely changed for the better. Every school, library, household & doctors office should own this book. Now that I have completed VT, I know my life has completely changed for the better.

Great personal story about the AMAZING benefits of vision therapy
As the Mom of a 6.5 year old who tested as a high early reader last summer before Kindergarten and then started First Grade with 82% accuracy reading 13 words per minute, I knew I needed to dig deeper. I scheduled my daughter for an eye exam with an Optometrist who has a passion for kids due to his own vision problems as a child and discovered my daughter has an eye movement disorder which interferes with her ability to read. The recommended treatment is glasses and Vision Therapy (not covered by insurance) but I know it's the right thing to do. I was happy to find another family's story after doing some research and discovering the staggering statistics of ADD & ADHD mis-diagnosis for vision issues. A 20/20 vision test doesn't mean your child doesn't have a "vision" issue. Trust your instincts and get them tested by a developmental optometry specialist if your child is having learning issues.

Informative, to the point
It is an inspiring story with good information about amblyopia. Also has some useful references and term definitions and charts. I am newly learning about the subject.

Excellent read!
I purchased this as my daughter was in the beginning of vision therapy. I was able to identify with so many things. I am grateful that this book was written to help me see the other side!

Encouraging
Thanks for sharing your story. My daughter was diagnosed at age 11. This book was helpful and would be more helpful to those who have younger kids that are diagnosed. We have gone as far as we can go with patching so VT is our next step.
