Intense international thriller
I love thrillers and particularly those that are relevant to today's world and that have international implications in their story lines. I'm talking about Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, and David Baldacci types of novels. However, once I've read all of those guys, the well has run dry and I start looking for other talented authors who can fill the void. My cup runneth over with author RD Gupta's latest thriller, "The Icarus Prediction", a killer new thriller that didn't disappoint in the least. The story of Jarrod Stryker, an ex-CIA operative who has turned to high finance and is doing more than ok with his second career. His departure from service to his country was under a cloud of sorts but that doesn't mean that he isn't an honorable man. As he is living the good life in the banking world and making his millions, there is a lingering feeling of the missing excitement from the old spy days. As the saying goes, "be careful what you wish for", because Stryker stumbles onto an international conspiracy that rockets him back into the action in a big way.I loved this read for quite a few reasons. I found the character to be both a highly intelligent and flawed man (think Lucas Davenport from John Sandford's books) and this made him very relatable for me. I also loved everything about the international chase. This guy really got around in this story and that makes for an action-packed and intriguing read. Can't recommend this one enough if you love thrillers.

A thrill on every page
Jarrod Stryker is the Golden Boy of Wall Street. A Rhodes Scholar with a Harvard MBA, everything he touches turns to gold. Before coming to Wall Street, though, Jarrod had done a stint in the CIA, joining after 9/11, but when he took the blame for an operation gone wrong to cover for the woman he loved, he was dishonorably discharged from the Agency. Now, he’s stumbled across a conspiracy that threatens not only his new-found wealth and celebrity, but the economic stability of the world. Jarrod has to call on his old lover and his former Agency comrades to stop a vicious terrorist before the world’s oil supply is severely disrupted, an event that could also bring down his boss and mentor, a man he thinks of as a surrogate father. The Icarus Prediction by R. D. Gupta is a breathtaking thriller that zooms from the lofty heights of Wall Street to the rugged mountains of Central Asia, as Jarrod and his lover go up against a conspiracy involving the shadowy secret agencies of several countries. This is the kind of story that quickens your pulse with each turn of the page; with more twists and turns than a python with prey in its grasp. Once it gets hold of you, it never lets go until the end.

Great First Book
If you like books involving international terrorism plus wall street this is the book for you. I love the Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, Ben Coes style books and this book fits right in with them in terms of story telling, character development, international intrigue etc. etc. I am really impressed that this is a first book. It is really well written and I read it quickly. The only slight complaints I have is that the ending seemed pretty rushed, like the author had to meet some kind of a publishing deadline. Also the ending seemed to go a bit over the top as far as Israel and Saudi Arabia working together. My other complaint is that the sequel will not be published until 2017, surely the author could get it completed this year. In any case, I will be anxiously awaiting the next book.

Quite an engaging read
From start to finish I was hooked. The middle was A bit slow but the pace overall was fairly good. Clearly the topic of the book was well researched and quite enjoyed the entire thing

Full of Surprises
Enjoyed this book. Takes a while to get used to skipping from location and characters in one chapter to different ones in next chapter. Part of the fun is guessing and then finding out how they all link together. Well written and moves right along.

Holy Oil Well Barman!
RD Gupta has a wicked imagination, no, wait, maby a sense of the future. Anyway, it is a wicked story, with smooth plot and gritty characters. Lots of adventure, intreague and twists and turns. Looking forward to more of this writer.

Flying Too High
This action thriller is a page burner in the Tom Clancy genre. In Greek lore Icarus flew too close to the sun and "betting it all" is an equally sure way for hubris to melt the future into a labyrinth of thrills. Count me a huge fan of RD Grupta - a great talent for pulling the loose ends together and then "pulling the string"!
