You will never want a different spiral. The hardback on this one allows you to write anywhere without the use of a desk or table. The double spirals in the edge keep the paper in tact. I’ve never had a sheet accidentally rip out. The paper is excellent quality. This spiral is very sturdy, unlike the flimsy ones at the department store. A little more expensive, but it will last… and looks very professional.

I'm in my 60's and over my life I have tried many, many different notebooks. Twelve years ago I discovered Black n' Red and have used them ever since. Here are the highlights. - They have different sizes for your preference. - Thick front and rear protective covers - Strong spiral binding that resists bending/deforming - Crisp, smooth white pages that are sturdy to write on if you are one to apply pressure when you write.I think that the black and red color styling are classy looking. I add a ribbon as a page marker then I'm good to go. I even give them away as gifts. After trying several different sizes I settled on the 6-11/16 x 9-5/8 size as the the most versatile for me. Small, easy to carry yet large enough for notes and sketching. I don't recall how I discovered them, but I'm glad that I did.AND . . . . If you are wondering, no one paid me to write this review. I just LOVE the their notebooks.

Started using these notebooks last year and I've been really happy with them. They have a great feel, weight, thickness, smoothness of paper, and are a pleasure to write on.EDIT: I've been tracking the price of these things, and they seem to have increased dramatically. I bought a 3 pack when they were sitting around $35, which I felt was expensive, but worth while given the quality of the paper. Now I'm seeing them trending in the mid $50's which is absurd. It's paper, it's not a religious experience.

I use it for class notes in college. I write with fountain pens, and don't get any bleeding even with the wettest pens. Very minimal ghosting too.Pros:- Paper quality is excellent!!! Works great with fountain pens.- Feels smooth/luxurious and a real pleasure to write on.- Heavy/thick paper (24 lb) really stands up to abuse.- Folds backward: opens completely to fit on the tiny little fold-out desks they have in lecture halls.- Hard cover: allows me to use it almost like a clipboard, leaning against the edge of the desk to get a better angled surface for more comfortable writing.Cons (mostly subjective):- Not enough pages! I burn through one of these every 3-4 weeks for my college notes.- Ruled lines are a bit too wide for me. More like wide-ruled than college-ruled.- Kind of heavy due to the hard cover.- Perforations are a bit difficult to tear out.If I could get one of these with a dot grid ruling and 2-3x the number pages, that would be just about my ideal perfect notebook ever, but ya can't always get what you want...In any case, this is definitely the best notebook I've used BY FAR.

Initial observations about notebooks: very sturdy, properly sized binding so both sides can be written on. Solid covers, front and back. Very white paper, nice feel, works very well with a fountain pen (Pilot Metropolitan, fine, with Noodles Eel Black ink and Iroshizuku Deep Green). No visible bleed through so far. Nice to write on.Follow up: fountain pen ink takes some time to fully dry, longer than with other papers. There is a slight tendency to smudge. The paper works very well with Lanier 9000 series ballpoint pen refills.

My boss gave me one at work for free, and I had to order one for myself for my personal research notes, which I like to write on paper rather than in my digital notebook. I cannot stress enough how amazing it is that I can write in pen and still write on both sides of the paper. I know these are expensive, especially for one notebook, but you get more out of it because you can write on both sides. I don't use the additional feature that allows you to scan the pages and save them to the cloud, but that is just because I don't see the need to use the feature. I'm sure for others, that is a really helpful organizational feature.

My husband uses these for work. Because he has to carry it around from site to site, the hard cover is crucial. He's not easy on it and it holds up beautifully. The paper inside is also good quality. he's attached to these now and won't use anything else.

Quality wire binding, coated red, with a semi thick black glossy paper based cover. Writing on both sides of each page is easy peasy with this ruling.The premium being paid for the wire binding is tangible, however, the product delivers and I personally believe this type of binding is worth the premium in price. I'll buy it again, certainly when on sale.The paper itself, if you're not accustomed to it, is suitable for fountain pens, broad and XXF. I would rate it average fountain pen paper and use it myself for handwriting practice/therapy (to me writing sweet nothings is therapeutic) and personal notes. Nice balance of smoothness and dry-ability (excuse me for the poor vocab this morning). Not quite smooth enough to be a heart-felt favorite, but there's give and take with everything, price, quality, availability, etc., so it is what it is.Would be nice to see the black n' red team offer dot grid ruled notebooks in the not so distant future.

The Optik white paper is great to use with any pen, including Frixion (erasable) and wet Fountain pens; allowing you to write on both sides of the paper with no bleed or show-through.This notebook looks great in a professional setting, and you'll get lots of comments asking what brand it is!As a bonus, it supports digitizing your notes with the Scribzee app, allowing anywhere-access to your notes, and it even supports real handwriting search. Far superior to the Rocketbook app, I now use Scribzee for backing up and searching all my notes!

This is hands down the best notebook I have ever gotten. It's durable, excellent quality, the paper is exquisite and it's so much fun to write in. I found the medium size, spiral bound notebook to be the best for me. If you're concerned about the price- don't be. It's worth it to have a notebook you truly enjoy writing in and will stand up against daily use. I can't find a single thing to complain about and I will be ordering more once I've completely filled the two I have already!
