FinlagganCask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70 cl

This is really horrible. I love Islay malts. Even young ones. And the price was appealing for a cask-strength Islay. But this is grim. No wonder the distillery doesn't want their name on this. It's absolutely awful.The usual Islay peat and smoke are there, but with no refinement or balance: it's clearly very young spirit, no more than 4 years old, and it's like licking an ashtray. Under the sour smoke, there are off flavours of peppermint, pine resin, acetone/nail polish. Usually, Islay malts balance the smoke with sea salt and barrel aging but here there is little discernible barrel character.If you want a cask strength Islay malt, this is a poor purchase. It's unbalanced and unpleasant. Spend the extra tenner for Port Charlotte 10 @ 50% ABV or splash out on Ardbeg Uigedail / Corryvreckan or Laphroaig 10 C/S.

Don't mix this with cocaine. Very nice whisky, the only problem was I drank it too quickly.

Peat smoke and brine on a fairly restrained nose, fairly sweet and oily on the palate with caramel notes and then the burn comes in, wave after wave of peat smoke and a very very long finish with a crescendo of Tarred rope and smoke drift. To my mind this has hints of both Caol Ila and Lagavulin so may be a youngish version of either aged in different barrels to the usual expressions. Excellent!

This is an awesome Cask Strength Islay malt from an unknown distillery. I'm guessing it's a young Ardbeg but I could be wrong.One thing I do know about it is that it is sweet yet peaty and totally delicious!

I love peated and cask strength whiskey but this is rough and undrinkable. It's cheap for a reason!

Oh my god yes, yes and yes.This is a lovely drink.As yet no mention of distillery but I suspect either Ardbeg or Lagavulin.And I'm more inclined to say it's from Lagavulin.Enough said, this cask strength malt is unbelievably palatable.Certainly on my top shelf.An excellent peaty malt.

good if you can get it at the right price ..... very nice cask strength .... and when all is said and done ... there is no bad whisky comes off that island .....
