Perfect self watering system
This is my 3rd order from Sustainable Village, all delivered on time. I absolutely love Blumat classic system and self water system (works as advertised, outside plants survived and thriving in California temperature over 110 Fahrenheit while I was out 4 weeks), easy to install. I ordered rain barrels from different seller, Amazon screw tracking orders and attached my negative review to Sustainable Village. If I can, I would give Blumat and Sustainable Village 10 stars. For reservoir, I bought 5-gallon HDPE bucket from HD, drill a hole and installed Blumat spigot ( For the rest you just need a knife and scissor to cut a hose to desired length and connect parts. Very simple.

Great drip system without the hassle of pumps and timers
Amazing product, easy setup and great results. I am using this system as an experiment in both an indoor as well as outdoor garden. Currently I have 3 of the Blumats setup running off of a 5 gallon bucket reservoir that is gravity fed and growing produce under a 600W HID light. The reservoir is running about 4-5 day cycles between fillups into coco coir/perlite medium in 3 gallon buckets. Zero runoff when set correctly and I have grown a complete cycle with organic nutrients running through the system and a little DripClean to keep the lines free. Outdoors I am running 6 of these powered from the hose adapter with zero ferts in the water. These are powering a small 6x6 raised bed with organic soil mix and compost as nutrients. The outdoor ones need a little fiddling here and there depending on temperature and how fast the soil dries but still have preformed extremely well. Not sure if you can use this system as a complete irrigation option, but for vacations and people who have balcony gardens this is a huge step up from the watering can. Amazing product, great quality, and I can safely assume it will work for at least a few years making it well worth the cost.

easy enough to install but don't wait until the last minute
I've done three installations, one in my atrium that's permanent, and two that were rigged up to water plants while I was traveling. One of the temporary installs was in my guest bathroom shower, fed by a Blumat pressure regulator attached to an adaptor (both sold by Amazon) attached to the shower arm. For a water source, I cracked the cold-water valve open just a bit. There's a small window above the shower that supplied enough light to keep indoor plants alive for five weeks. In fact, when I came back they'd never looked better. BTW the instructions that come with the kit warn that it isn't for indoor use, although according to Sustainable Village this has to do with liability concerns rather than with the product not working indoors. The permanent install is in my atrium and, again, the plants have never looked better. You *will* have to bleed the system to get the air out. Just bleed it like you'd bleed a car's hydraulic brakes, starting at the spike further from the water source and working your way toward the source. Installation is straightforward, although fine-tuning the flow regulator on top of each spike may take you several weeks. I thought I had everything dialed in, but when I came back the Ficus in the atrium was suffering--there must have been a hot spell. I guess the lesson here is to err on the side of caution if you're going to be gone--crank up the flow to a little more than what the plant seems to need. (Or maybe the lesson is that Ficus are temperamental.) The third system was supposed to be attached to the kitchen sink faucet, again using an adaptor sold on Amazon, with indoor plants on the counter in the sort of drainage tray used under an air conditioner condenser and dumping any overflow into the sink. But given the need to fine tune the system, which would have taken my kitchen offline for weeks, I used it in my patio, with less success, although maybe pothos aren't outdoor plants :-) BTW when I got home I put all the indoor plants back in their places but left the shower and patio systems hooked up and the valves on. Several days later both of them started spouting water from the end spike. Apparently they'd dried to the point that they were signaling for water. This stuff ain't cheap. I have about $500 into three systems plus regulators. But I think it's worth it. First, you don't need to hire a house- or plant-sitter if you're traveling. Just make sure the system is installed so that water won't ruin your floors if there's a malfunction: in a shower, tub or those condenser trays I mentioned. Second, you don't need to deal with a landscaper to plumb and wire a conventional drip irrigation. You design and install the Blumat system yourself. And third, your plants will look way, way better, even if you think you're conscientious about watering. Finally, don't be afraid to reach out to Sustainable Village for tech support. They're great.

Works but needs some monitoring
Set up wasn't too difficult. I found that when I fill my reservoir (even when there's still water inside), I have to make sure that all the drippers are properly set because once in awhile they will turn on full blast. Sort of tedious, but worth it because my plants are getting a steady supply of water with not much effort on my part. I connected one of the original blumat carrots to this system - the tubing is the same size as drip carrot. By original carrot, I mean the kind that feeds water to the plant from the carrot itself (not drip like this kit). So far it's working well. I sort of prefer the original carrot because the hose effect can't happen like with the dripper.

Best thing since slided bread!
Seriously, the blumats are the cats meow, the apple pie with american cheese on top, the hope diamond, and the taker of all cake, rolled into one. How well can you tell how much water your plants? How often do they need it? Unless you have a six-sense like that creepy kid in the movie, these puppies are your best bet. I've ran them for two years straight and have only had minor issues. It should be noted that I run my AACT's and organic nutes through these 24/7. A little massaging of the drip lines every other day, and you'll be mis-stepless. Easy to use. Easy to understand. And, most importantly, they do the damn job consistently and excellently. Seriously, if you're on the fence...don't be. Pull the trigger and start your gravity fed obsession. Blumat, how I love you.

So if you want to use it from a garden hose they have a great solution for you
The product says that there is a hose coupler. Unfortunately it is not for a garden hose, but an 8mm hose. So if you want to use it from a garden hose they have a great solution for you. Another $46 part that only they sell. A normal pressure reducer would be only $6 at your local hardware store. Need some extra drip line for the Tropf Blumat? Well that will cost you $45 for 90 feet. 1/4 inch drip hose runs $7 for 100 feet. The product may work fine, however it seems that it is designed to sell costly proprietary products. It could easily be designed to use off the shelf parts at half the cost. This product is made by an Austrian company so I understand why they use the metric system, however they are selling it in America where we do not. Also, they have not responded question about the product I asked them 10 days ago.

Great irrigation system for balconies, raised beds
I'm using it for several years now, with a 20l galvanized vat. This allows me to fill it in only every 2-3 days, and ensures my raised beds and containers are not getting dry. On a hot day you can see how much a tomato plant drinks real-time. The system is foolproof and high quality. It has survived a move, outside storage. A great gift to any gardener!

Concerned with new tubing
This is my second kit. The product itself is 10 stars. The drip system, when set correctly, works 100% great for my 5 gallon bucket container garden, 62 buckets. Where this new kit falls short is the tubing. In my photos, the red silicone tubing in my first kit is flexible, fits the fittings great. This new black tubing is horrible. Now I have to spend a bunch more money to buy the red tubing because this black stuff is garbage. Apparently, I'm supposed to keep hot water around to make this stuff pliable to make it straight.
