Reduce digestive issues
I've added this supplement to aid proper digestion. I've been feeling pretty good. It's hard to know if this is the reason, but I'm going to continue taking it.

Wanting to Increase Iron Absorption **LOW FERRITIN** ...ugh, again.
I struggle to keep my ferritin / iron stores at a higher level do to inconsistencies on my part with supplements : ( [Nutshell: Early 50's and unkind periods with approaching menopause.] With a current level of "9" I know my thyroid is struggling so I'm intent on getting levels to optimum 90-100 range for proper function. While reading on all things iron & thyroid (do if you haven't. Very interesting and enlightening!) I came across a specific study of the increase in iron absorption when taking this particular strain of probiotic -- a 50% increase at that (in meal studies). That's huge! So, tiny little bottle of probiotic arrived and I've only been taking it with my iron supplement for less than a week. In 3 months I'll recheck my ferritin levels and update this post. I like Swanson supplements and that's why I bought this brand specifically.

translucent orange bugs growing in them a year before best buy date.
I bought this L.Plantarum back on December 30th, 2024. The expiration states its: "B 259181 Best Buy 05/26". I started making yogurts from them and others. Last week (2025.05.12) I decided I wanted to start a fresh batch from scratch to eliminate any cross contamination I may have caused. But these now have translucent orange bugs in them. In ALL of them!I thought about removing the tiny orange critters, but I don't want to accidentally grow them after purposely attempting to refresh the batch due to possible cross-contamination.I just want the Swanson company to ensure their product stays bug free until near the best buy date. I've only had these for a few months before every capsule was riddled with orange bugs. Makes me cringe. They are also in the other Swanson probiotic that I purchased at the same day. Its obvious that the filler product (plant fiber?) which they used in all their products at that same time was riddled with bug eggs. It creeps me out to try to think of which species of bugs these are, but they are too small to identify yet. Part of me wants to throw them away, but another part of me wants to see what they grow into, while another part of me knows that I will not be able to stop them from skittering or fluttering away if I try to find out. I suppose I kept them long enough to write a detailed review with batch ID and best buy date.I've purchased these for years, and in large quantities in the past. Taking one a day just wasn't cutting it. Taking several heaping tbsp each morning was incredibly beneficial for me. That's the equivalent of taking this entire bottle each morning. I took points off for lack of quality assurance, use of poor filler products, and incorrect best buy dates by over a year's estimate. I'm glad I opened the capsules, as I'd hate to know if these orange bugs could survive gastric acid. Here is data that I found elsewhere about some other company's L.Plantarum, but due to Swanson not stating which specific one they used its hard to know for sure which properties are shared by similarly named species of probiotics:Lactobacillus plantarum:Reduces: obese body mass* and excess serum oxalates that cause kidney stones.*Improves: fat-burning*, overall gut health, IBS symptoms*, constipation*, cholesterol*, vaginal disorders*, memory*, mood*, atopic dermatitis*, and supports healthy blood pressure.*
