The Best E-Reader Ever
Really like this Kindle Oasis! It's very light and easy to hold in one hand. The screen is sharp, responsive and highly adjustable. The buttons work well so one doesn't need to move their hands when turning pages. The adjustable light is excellent, the warmth feature makes the screen less harsh at night. The ability to save view settings is nice since one may want one look during the day and another look at night. One nice feature I like that has been mentioned by another viewer is the ability to change which button moves pages forward and backward. There is also another feature I like in Settings/All Settings/Accessibility--the option to Invert Black and White--the background becomes black and the print becomes white. On my Fire tablets I prefer the black background with white text. I can set it like this on the Oasis. It's excellent for night reading.Over the years I have owned the Kindle 3 Keyboard and the last basic Kindle (before lights). The Kindle 3 Keyboard, which I bought in 2011 still works! The basic Kindle was my go to device for reading until now. The Oasis is a big step up from that device, although I am still partial to that basic Kindle.I own the first Fire tablet, and also the Fire 6", Fire 8" and Fire 10" tablets. My friend uses my Fire 8" tablet instead of her iPad Mini since it does everything that tablet does, but has an SD card slot. Also, Fire tablets update better than Apple devices which tend to slow down and have apps stop working.I use my Fire tablets to watch movies (or my Fire TV stick) and my Kindles for reading. I am quite happy with all my Amazon devices, and the new Oasis is great. If your thinking of buying a Kindle and can afford the Oasis, I recommend it. It's faster, easier to hold and has better lighting than the Paperwhite--and it has those page turning buttons. In other words, if you can get the best, why not get it?Finally, I would recommend getting a cover since the aluminum case of the Oasis can get a little cold. The Amazon Oasis Water-Safe Fabric cover is light, sturdy and feels good in the hand. You never need to remove it from the Oasis as it fits perfectly in the hand.

Luxury in the Palm of My Hand
Okay... Long story short: I have been looking at the Oasis here on Amazon and elsewhere for months... MONTHS! I have read reviews, I have looked at specs, I have looked at advertisements and videos... Did I mention that I have been doing this for months? Here, in brief, is what I learned from all of this research: the Oasis is a reader not much different from the Paperwhite I have been using. The price is higher. Is it worth the price? The screen is too reflective. The Paperwhite is just right. The lights are brighter. Well, so are the Paperwhite's. There is warm lighting on the Oasis. From the pictures/videos I could not really tell what that means. Well, so I did this for months, as I mentioned before... What exactly is the appeal? Oh, a larger screen? It didn't really look like it was all that much bigger... besides, the Paperwhite screen was just great. So??? So, I finally ordered one and here is what I found: I opened the package, pulled out the Oasis, I turned it on... I FELL IN LOVE! OMG! The Oasis just feels so luxurious in my hand. I thought that little thick side looked kind of goofy before. I now see it as a sign of brilliant design. The page buttons are a joy to use and I almost never have to touch my screen anymore (for menus and library only now). The lighting is spectacular and the warm light in low level light just makes the screen so much easier to read. The display is crisp and clear. I had read where some folks where having problems with page bleeding from one screen to the next and I have experienced this when it is very cold and the Oasis is first turned on... It seems to need a moment to warm up and then the bleeding goes away... NOT an issue/problem. The display is not any more reflective than any other Kindle I have used in the past. Oh and so very light! I would say my Paperwhite, with a cover, is easily three times heavier. That may not seem like much and in practical terms it is not that big a deal, but oh how that light weight adds to that feeling of luxury. And then there's that page flip thing... As you sit and hold the Oasis in your right hand all comfy and cozy feeling all pampered while you read and then have the dog jump up on the couch next to you wanting some attention... Well, just put that Oasis in the left hand, freeing up your right hand to pet Fido, and the display flips over so that the Oasis now fits just as easy in the left as it did the right hand. That, my friend, is yet another bonus of amazing design and luxury! Do I think the price is worth it? Tuff question. My Paperwhite is very affordable and well worth every cent I spent on it. I love that little reader. But, the luxury of the Oasis is just so incredible... For ME, in the end, I would say it was well worth it. Now, the one thing I should mention is that the battery life has not been as long as I expected it would be, but I have to admit that I am reading for hours longer that I did before too... That may very well be the reason it is not as long as I expected... So, I guess when it comes to battery life, your mileage may vary, as they say. My concluding bottom line would be: Absolutely the most luxurious thing I have every purchased and to say it's a pleasure to use is merely a faint echo of symphony of joy I feel using it!
