Unbreak my heart
A memoir for the broken-hearted literature lovers and Toni Braxton fans. I loved this Memior. It's so forth telling . More revealing then any interview the legendary Ms. Braxton has ever done and deeper than any episode of Braxton Family Values on WE TV. A definite a must read. It gives not only a true understanding of Toni's career, but with each chapter, you feel a pulse beating from her words. One of a strong women coming into her own voice and belting out her independence through song. The "Breathe Again" singer reveals very intimate moments and thoughts on her journey from obscurity to stardom to bankruptcy to motherhood and the life of a wife to divorce. Any true fan of celebrity's behind the music tales and the R&B entertainer Toni Braxton will enjoy the Un-break My Heart Memoir. This was an outstanding memoir on so many levels. I loved the fact that she broke it down about her bankruptcy mishaps, and how she ended up that way two times, which for her sake, I pray that second was her last. She has two adorable sons, Denim and Diezel, and she reveals how she and her then husband, Keri Lewis, came up with those names--pretty interesting stuff. She had a strong religious upbringing and although her parents had six children, with Toni being the first, most of the mistakes that may have been made, were made on her. There was one statement she made that really said it all about where Toni's mindset is today. "I'm only responsible for myself and my children. Period." Due to her formative years, Mrs. Braxton, Toni's mom, made some rather unfair demands on her which she carried throughout her life, and which, I believe, is the root for a great deal of the issues she later faced. Her parents weren't perfect, but there was a great deal of psychological damage already in the making. The funny thing is, from the moment she popped on the R&B scene back in the early 90s, I always sensed a sadness about her, and after having read her life story, I see why that is. She's done a lot of growing up and has learned some rather hard valuable lessons along the way. Toni is finally thinking about 'Toni' and not worrying about her sisters' lives or their trying to make claim to fame. This book is all about Toni and how life's bumpy ride impacted her. She set the record straight on many of the media's inappropriate mishandling of her life. I love Toni and I'm so glad Babyface got her to do a new album and she's singing and, for the first time in a very long time, is happy with herself! This was an awesome read, and one I'm sure any memoir fans will adore. Worth every penny and the pics in the Kindle version were great!

Left Wanting MORE . . .
I recently finished reading this book as of 3/18/2016. I must say I enjoyed reading Ms. Braxton's story about many of the events that have happened in her life thus far. I personally think, she should have taken (more) time with the book, it is a (quick) read. Another 150 pages added to the book would have really put this book over-the-top for me. The introduction is amazing, and it 'set,' me up, or so I thought, for a true introspective look into her life, that would have included [with the stories she chose to share], in a [far] more deeper look into her life and feelings. If you are expecting her to share many stories growing up with her sisters, you will be disappointed. She doesn't truly mark the dates, times, or shares the names of her sisters when they were born. She does give mention to her brother, but it's as 'if,' her sisters just become 'part,' of the story... It's an ODD thing, in my opinion. I know everyone's life can't be rainbows and butterflies, however, I was looking for MORE times when she had just a few weeks of JOY in her life, and it seemed to be one sad event or one lesson to be learned after another. For much of the book, you get the feeling that she was alone. As I was reading chapter after chapter, I was waiting for her to write about her experience when each sister was born and her one and only brother. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister and I couldn't write a memoir about my life, without including many stories about them and the life we shared growing up. Toni didn't grow up alone, siblings also help shape WHO you become, and it isn't until Toni began singing professionally did you hear about Traci, Towanda, Trina and Tamar. I didn't 'expect,' dirt on them, or even stories about what (they) were doing, but I did expect at least (5) good stories, about the fun they had growing up and how it is to share life with that many sisters. I would have liked to know more about what making a home meant to her, and what being a wife was like for her and creating a home with her then husband Keri, what it was like those first few days at home with a new born, etc.I finished this book in two days, and was left feeling like there was MORE that should have been written, and wishing that Ms. Braxton would have delved deeper into her life experiences. She tells the story, but doesn't fully (expound) upon deeper feelings. It's as if she wrote the book in an apprehensive mode. Being HIGHLY careful of names, and her own feelings. She writes also as if she doesn't really want to 'offend,' anyone, especially her parents, however, I wish she would have taken her guard down a bit more, and took more time with the book. There is a lot of 'surface,' explanations, and by the time you 'think,' you are about to get into the 'deep,' portion of a story, it's on to the next thing. Toni's TRUE FANS, [I consider myself one, beginning from the Boomerang Soundtrack], would want to know MORE about HER, and her deeper feelings. So, this book was 'okay,' for me, shared stories, that could have easily been told to a journalist, and been in a magazine. Overall, I will keep it in my home library and continue to listen to and buy her wonderful music. Because as an artist, she is truly a gifted singer, songwriter, musician and actress...

I really enjoyed it. It helped to understand who Toni Braxton is and to appreciate her more.It is an easy read so doesn't take long to finish plus it's one of those books you don't want to put down either. She does divulge quite a lot about her life, which is good. I didn't feel like she was holding anything back.

Very good book, Toni is so honest
Very good book, Toni is so honest, after I have read it I understood that stars are only humans and society at most times is just too judgmental for people who have achieved sucess
