What else do I need to get him, like amp, cables, etc??** A: This is a perfect guitar for an 8 year old. As far as beginner guitars go this one is one of the best I've come across. As far as amps and cables. Youd be good with going with a cheaper amp. A cheap beginner amp would be line 6. The spider 4 model is a good one. It certainly isn't top of the line but it lasts pretty well. The Cables are up to you. When i recieved the guitar it came with a cheap cable. I prefer live wire cables. The size is dependent on your preference. If you have a guitar center in your area the store near me offers live wire cables with a lifetime warranty included. So you can replace broken cables if you have to for free **Q: Dose it come with amp or cord?** A: It does not include an amp cord, no case, no picks, and no strap. I purchased an Orange CR20L 8" amp, I highly recommend. It's small but mighty and definitely better quality than the beginner/bundled amps from Fender or Peavey. Guitar straps for beginners are reasonable ($6-25). I play for my own pleasure...so I bought a guitar stand instead of a case. I first had this guitar when I was 15. My dad got it for me as a Christmas gift. He recently passed away. Sadly, during a difficult time in his life and a toxic relationship, the guitar he gave me was either given away or sold. Losing it broke my heart. Thankfully, my dad had taken photos of it, and with careful research, I was able to track down the exact same model. Now I have it again, and it feels like a piece of my dad is back with me. I inherited his love for rock music and playing guitar, and having this instrument again is a way of keeping that bond alive. I’m still learning to play, so I’m very much a beginner.
