Outstanding sound quality!
These replaced a pair of HR824 originals, which became flaky. I'm very happy with the sound of these - just seems more well-balanced than the previous version.

Excellent Sound Quality
I had the original HR824 for 20+ years and one finally let go so I replaced with the MK2's and they are superb

Sadly all the models and series are lumped together for reviews
The Mackie 824 MK2 is a wonderful studio monitor. It is one of the few speakers that does not need a subwoofer in order to provide a flat bass response. One of the best ways of testing the frequency response of a studio monitor is to hook it up to a quality digital piano. Most will do an extremely poor job of replicating the lowest octive on a piano without help from a subwoofer. The 824 MK2 has no trouble. Bear in mind I am NOT talking about the 824 series 1 speaker. There is night and day difference between the two as well as the price. Sadly Amazon's rating does not distinguish between the two nor do they distinguish in the various models. They are all lumped together. The Mackie 824 MK2 is a true high-end studio monitor that should have its own review section, in my own humble opinion.

You need these.
I have the HR824 "Mark 1's" I guess they would be. You can spend more money, but you'd probably need a computer to tell the difference in accuracy. These new mark 2's, most notably, seem to have better faces to the cabinets. More rounded edges should yield better, smoother sound.I use mine as home stereo mains, along with an inexpensive, basic JBL 12" subwoofer. I choke off the lows to the mackie's and blend in the sub and can crank all this up to absolutely dangerous and hurtful levels.

One of the best of the breed!
Mackie makes some legendary equipment including monitors. These are VERY precise and have wide and nice sweet spot. On the omnirack's 36 workstation they fit nicely with perfect spread and coverage. The exactness, the ability to expose all of the subtle components in a performance is exceptional. Even on low volumes the monitor provides transparent and full image. I often use these with digital EQ for modeling and in this role it is one indispensable monitor.I must say that technology and competition brought prices down drastically. It was unimaginable 3-4 years ago to buy such fine device for a moderate price. Considering number of "fake monitors" from many newly appeared "brands" it is a rare find and terrific value. Go and listen to this thing, you will be pleased.
