Great for working with younger kids with ODD
This was recommended to me by my clinical supervisor, and it has been very helpful in working with one of my clients. However, I will say it’s definitely and more at younger kiddos not so much at teenagers so some stuff had to be altered a little for my client who’s 15. (I am a therapist (LMSW) in training to be a LSCSW).

Children need time
I bought this book as I feel one of my grand children may have this issue. I have read the book and it makes sense. It has giving me a whole way of dealing with her and has help strengthen my relationship with her. After looking at the book there are a few things to take away on working with other people.

Perfect
I'm almost halfway through the book, but I feel the need to review this now. This book is like it was written from someone watching our lives. I have cried many times as I wondered if I was the only one that felt these things, thought these things, or said these things. I have 3 books on ODD and this one grabbed me and seems to be the one that will help our family. Thank you so much.

A Behavioral Approach
This book provided a good start with a plan that focuses on behavioral techniques such as positive reinforcement, extension, punishment. However, The Explosive Child offers a more detailed approach as far as identifying lagging skills specifically and working in collaboration with the child.
