Excellent quality anchovies, and I've tried them all
Very pleased with the quality of these anchovies as well as the price. I've tried many different kinds of anchovies trying to find the product that best suited my needs, and I think that I've finally found it. Most recently I was very disappointed by the Angostina Recci (sp?) salt packed anchovies. Some people love them but I found them too fishy, too tinny, and way, way too much work for the end result. My favorite anchovies are the Ortiz in the small jar, and while these aren't quite as good they are very close at a fraction of the price. In general Roland makes very high quality products in my experience. However, I've had the small cans of Roland anchovies and these are superior. They are very firm, do not turn to mush when extracted, and have a clean flavor with minimal bones. Another big advantage here is that the large, flat tin with a plastic lid allows easy extraction. It can be a bit messy as the oil runs down the side, so I wipe the tin before returning to the refrigerator. The small jars used by some brands make it very difficult to extract fish. That's especially true if cold but even when warm the fish can tend to stick together and come out in pieces. These are stacked in a cross-hatch and really easy to remove from the tin.A note on the oil used here: many are asking if it's EVOO, and it's not. If you want to use the oil itself in recipes I'd actually recommend pouring the oil off this tin and pouring in your choice of extra virgin. However, the taste of the fish is quite clean with no "off" oil flavor as you can get from products packed in lesser oils. Also, because it's not extra virgin it doesn't solidify so much in the refrigerator which can make it difficult to extract the fish unless brought to room temp (or close anyway) first. Since I often use just a couple of anchovies, this is ideal for me and doesn't require lead time to allow them to warm before use.Overall I'm very pleased with the quality and price of these fish. Delivery was in one day(!) as well.

Wish I'd found these years ago.
I purchased these because I eat a lot of homemade pizza. These anchovies are the best that I have ever eaten. I was curios as to the size being in a can this large But to my amazement and relief they are normal size anchovies. I will be purchasing many more of these. They come packed in olive oil which I just transfer to a glass container and put in the refrigerator. You would spend fifty-dollars for the same amount of anchovies that you get in those little cans from your local grocery store. I will never purchase my anchovies anywhere other than ROLAND from here on out! I am happy, happy, happy!

Stinky, salty little fishies.............. YUM!
Anchovies, at the best price I could find them, in less than a 55 gallon drum sized container. Can has a dust cover on the lid, to prevent crap from getting into the areas where you pull it open, a nice touchAlso, it did not affect my review, but one of the two cans arrived dented badly, but was replace with no cost two days later.

Premium product!
After going through several orders of the Crown tins, I decided to give Roland a try. Well, these puppies are larger, firmer, and are certainly more suitable for uses where they need to hold together. They're packed in a crisscrossed layered pattern, so they're easy to retrieve from the tin, or move to another storage container. Flavorwise, I don't suppose that there's a lot of difference between varieties, but these definitely had a fresh taste, and a good texture. I plan on getting these on the subscription plan... :)

They are no longer using olive oil! Tastes worse and may be very bad for you.
I ordered these many times and was very happy with them until now. I always freeze the tin when I'm done to solidify the olive oil and make it easier to dispose of it in a sealed bag. Olive oil should turn very solid after a day or two in the freezer, and also turns cloudy and white. Then you can chip it out of the tin and dispose of it easily. This picture shows a tin that was frozen for 3 days and the oil is still as soft as pudding. This is very suspicious. I fear that this is rapeseed oil, which is one of the worst oils you can possibly eat. It takes far longer to solidify in the freezer than all other oils. I will NEVER be ordering this product again. Olive oil should be more solid than this after a few days in the refrigerator, let alone in the freezer. There is absolutely no way this is olive oil and I will never be able to trust Roland's products again.

Perfectly fine I assume
I'm giving this 5 stars not really knowing any other canned anchovies so I have no idea if these are great or not. I bought them to use in making Salade Nicoise because they were the most affordable.I assumed by being packed in oil the fish would be soft fleshed. I also assumed they would be bone free being fillets. Neither is the case. The anchovies can best be described as having the texture of strips of leather or jerky. They all are filled with hair like bones. The oil they are packed in turns opaque and solid in the refrigerator so you have to plan ahead to let the can come up to room temperature so you can fish out the fish.Taste wise I was really pleasantly surprised that they are really not strongly salty or fishy tasting and just added the accent I think was called for.I do rinse them and let them soak in water a little before using them so maybe that reduced any strong flavors. Your mileage may vary.

Beware, the product delivered is NOT from Spain and there is a very big difference in quality
I have bought the Roland brand anchovies many times. When the anchovies are actually from Spain they are of much higher quality. NOT mushy and they hold together as a little filet. Quite excellent and a goo deal.Despite the description showing "Product of Spain" on the can and the description on the product page specifically calling out "Spain". The can that arrived was from PERU. I have found these to be much lower quality. Mushy and do not at all have the same texture, or quality.Misleading product info!!
