These blocks are dense and heavy but the wood is soft which makes for easier carving. The wood carves with nice small peels and doesn't chunk. Its tight grain and density make it easier to create defined detail work. There are almost no knots in the wood and the occasional knot is very small. I would have liked more of the larger pieces as to me they are more useful than the smaller one inch bars but all in all a great set for whittling/carving.

Relatively expensive, but convenient and pretty good quality. The basswood has nice even creamy grain, but some pieces are pretty hard. Found putting in a baggy with a damp paper towel for a day or so helped.

These blocks of wood is ideal for anyone who likes to carve and they come in a variety of sizes which is nice also!! It is a very good deal!!

My husband bought this for me, I was carving super hard wood, I have to say, this basswood is so Fun to carve!!

My Grandchildren and I are learning carving together and this wood is very easy to carve and looks great!!

Expected them to be larger

Very nice blocks clean and square will purchase again. I wish someone would offer a 1/1/2 by1/1/2 size .
