Lite-On 24X SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive Optical Drive IHAS124-14

I don't like buying used computer parts but nobody good make DVD/CD player burner. Mabe because the last for years and years. This one arrived. Installed it ino the computer and put a disk in it to get windows 11 to load a driver. Perfect, it plays and burns images to cd and DVD without issues.

Seems to work well. Quiet.

I installed two of these (one in a desktop computer and one in an external USB DVD drive) and both worked as expected for the hour or so I used each of them. I can't speak to the durability of the units yet, hence the one star deduction. I noticed that the production date of the drives was in 2023. I have read that manufacturers have either stopped or will be stopping production of DVD player/recorders in the near future. In this time of cloud storage, digital downloads for movies, and streaming I guess the demand has diminished. I still find great value in them and some others may as well. Better get 'em while you can.

My dad's dvd/cd rom died on his desktop computer which was causing him untold emotional angst and despair because he couldn't put his beloved music cd's on his computer (yeah, he's VERY old school.) It was easy to install works great, and my dad thinks I'm a computer genius (Not!) for restoring his ability to rip and burn cds again. All is well once again.

Bought the bare drive. I don't know if this is a Windows 10 thing or not, but at first the drive seemed to not be recognized properly (BIOS saw it, Device Manager saw it, nothing in File Explorer).. However, when I discovered it was assigned a drive letter in Disk Management, I decided to try putting a disc in the drive and like magic it suddenly popped up in File Explorer. So, that was 1 mystery solved. Now, I bought it to burn a bunch of ISOs to DVD. Good news, the drive works with the 16x Philips DVD-R discs I bought. Bad news, it does not like the TDK DVD+R DL discs I bought and most of the ISOs are too big to fit on 4.7 GB. I know the discs are not defective, as they work fine in the LG Blu-Ray burner on my other PC. What seemed to be called for was a firmware update, but like many PC makers, LIte-On now has you download a "smart" play program to check for firmware updates. According to it, there is no newer firmware update at this time. So, I replaced an old Lite-On drive with this drive. Problem with the old DVD burner? If it didn't have a disc in it, you then had to use a paperclip to open the disc tray. if you keep a disc in it, it opens fine; there's a drive on my work PC like that, too. Old drive burned to the DL discs I fine, though. Old drive was an old Lite-On parallel IDE drive, not a SATA drive. SO, it just feels like I swapped one functionality for another. Anyway, not a bad drive for the price, just not a great, wonderful, exceptional drive either. And I hope they (Lite-On) release some new firmware for media compatibility soon!! At this point, I am almost tempted to put the old parallel burner back in the computer.

When the DVD/CD burner in my 10 years old Lenovo desktop finally wore out, I initially tried to use an external replacement but found those thin units I tried (that bear different brand names but seem to come from the same Chinese source) were at best unreliable. I had seen Liteon SATA internal burners used in previous PCs I've owned and found them to be reliable, but my search for one now led me to think they were no longer available. Fortunately I found this site and have now fitted an identical burner which worked first time with no problem. As another reviewer has reported, it's very quiet when operating, which led me to think it was dead when I first tried it!

Sono molto soddisfatto di questo acquisto e per questo gli ho assegnato cinque stelle. Vi spiego brevemente i motivi. Avevo anzitutto bisogno di un masterizzatore che soddisfacesse due requisiti fondamentali: che fosse Double Layer (per i non addetti ai lavori un dispositivo in grado di scrivere particolari DVD su entrambi i lati) e che potesse essere compatibile e funzionante con il mio pc portatile. Entrambi i requisiti sono pienamente soddisfatti; per il secondo ho dovuto acquistare a parte un adattatore Inateck che alimenta il mio masterizzatore e che mi garantisce uno scambio di dati sicuro e relativamente veloce. Il masterizzatore, seppur non silenziosissimo è abbastanza discreto riguardo a rumorosità. Come difetto segnalo la mancanza di qualsiasi cavo o adattatore che lo possa collegare a un computer. Consiglio questo masterizzatori a tutti in particolar modo per la sua flessibilità di utilizzo e per le sue qualità che seppur non al top garantiscono un ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo. Risulta infine ideali, per la sua assoluta compatibilità, per la masterizzare di dischi di backup dell’Xbox 360. Spero di esservi stato utile!
