Good value for the money
After reading some of the reviews I wasn't sure, but having bought Sauder in the past I thought I'd give it a shot. I found almost all of the negatives mentioned to be wrong, at least on the one I received. The only issue I found, which one review mentioned, was that if you fill it with cd's the shelves will begin to sag in the middle from the weight. Knowing this, I bought a sheet of thin plywood, cut out 6 small rectangles, spray painted them brown and inserted one in the center of each shelf to brace them. No sagging and you barely notice them. I also used wood glue when assembling it, so it's very sturdy.

NOT the original Beginnings Multimedia Unit!
I have used the Biginnings collection multimedia units in my home many times in the past. They make really good book shelves for my paperbacks, as well as display shelves for tchotchkes. So when I needed a new couple of sets to put in a new section of shelves, I searched for Sauder Beginnings, and got this listing.Except these are NOT the original Sauder Beginnings Multimedia shelves! The design is totally different, with different sizes, and much more limited shelving. The original design had single piece side boards, while this unit is actually like two, less-than-half-the-original-size units that have been nailed together in the middle, so now you're stuck with a fixed shelf right in the center of the unit. It is NOT as flexible as the original design, and it is SMALLER than the original design, both in width and in height. And these differences are NOT very obvious in the listing. If you aren't paying close attention, you will miss it. I sure did. They are at least well built for particleboard furniture, UNLIKE the bookcase in the same collection. All in all, I'm disappointed in these not being what I had thought I was buying, but they will function for what I bought them for. Just be aware, if you have other Sauder Beginnings units, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE BUYING THE RIGHT ONES TO MATCH! Because these do NOT match the originals, and I am really super glad that they aren't going in the same room as my other units!

Nice dark wood, sturdy. I recommend!
Purchased this shelf for video game storage and I am very pleased. Unit comes with detailed instructions and very little work is required.Tools needed: hammer, Phillips screwdriverI advise taking more time when nailing the backing on because you want it to be as tight as possible with little bubbling. It come with plenty of nails, space them out about 5-6 inches.Con:If you are putting heavy items on the shelf it tends to bend a little. I fixed this by using two selves. This worked for me because I have different sized things and I have some left over.I will purchase these again. Currently I own 6, so that should speak for itself :)

Cheap and unreliable construction method
3/5 because it was almost the exact size furniture piece I needed and I am happy with that aspect.Otherwise it’s basically 2 small book shelves stacked on each other held together with a little bit more than hopes and dreams.Basically the side panels attach to the horizontal panels with a metal dowel and a tightening screw that only simulates tightening as it ripped right out of the fiberboard material while I was trying to attach the back panel. For now gravity is holding it together against a wall until I get some glue, and it looks nice but I can’t give a pass on the designer’s half hearted attempt to hold the product together. To say I was disappointed when I went to pick this thing back up off the floor and it fell apart would be an understatement.

Great for the price
This stores a lot of stuff and doesn't take up too much space. For the low price, I really can't complain too much. It was a little tricky to assemble and I messed up on a few steps, so I would definitely pay close attention while assembling.

Trash masquerading as furniture.
You get what you pay for as the old saying goes and that certainly applies here. You would think that after spending $60 or so dollars on a 4 foot tall multimedia shelving unit, that this piece of furniture would possess at least some characteristics consistent with quality, but you would be sorely mistaken. The unit is made of mildly hardened particle board covered in a cheap laminate surface. It is more complicated to assemble than any item like this should ever be, with nails, screws, dowels, and pins. The backing is made of thin cardboard that comes in two pieces and requires around 25-30 nails to attach. The cardboard backing on mine was miscut along the right top border and was uneven, so I was forced the trim it. The unit is easily damaged during assembly, particularly when hammering in the nails for the backing. Alignment and hammering of nails has to be just right to avoid piercing or scratching the laminated surface. The unit comes with a safety harness that attaches at the top to prevent tipping once assembled and the shelves are filled with items (that screams quality). Shelves have a weight limit otherwise they will sag and warp. Very disappointed and I would not buy another Sauder product. But it did teach me a valuable lesson. It's a hard pill to swallow, especially when everything has gotten more expensive these days, but if you want a piece of furniture that will last decades or a lifetime, you will have to spend a premium to get premium quality. There's just no other way around that reality unless your willing to settle for garbage like this.

Awesome shelf
It's great I got one cause I had a smaller shelf but I have way too many dvds, blu-rays, videogames, and CD's so I wanted a bigger one. It's so great I finally have more than enough room for to display them. The shelf feels really sturdy and I got a nice black colored one cause I don't like the brighter colors as much. It's also not that difficult to assemble.
