This book + other light studying material = PASSED
Fantastic book, thorough outline style review focusing on PANCE relevant material. I felt that this book gave me a great foundation to build upon for the test for each subject, and I was able to depend on the reliability of facts provided by this book, while other study material I used often had incorrect info. The practice test in this book (labeled as a pre-test but I waited to take it after reviewing almost all the topics) was very helpful and pretty accurate scoring compared to my real results. Also the online resources with the code you receive in the book provides a ton of tests (I only had time to use a few) but they were great. I didn't get through all the topics within this book and still passed (coming from someone who always needed to study in PA school, with a "just passing" PACKRAT score). That being said, I do think it helps to have another source to study from for more "buzz words" and key facts/phrases, which I found by using the HELP PANCE site, despite their occasional inaccuracies. I also used some flash cards from a Lange book and any practice tests I could find online.

Great clinical year study tool
This is a great review book to use during the clinical year of PA school. I'm currently about halfway through my clinical rotations (... whoa, it just hit me that I'm almost a PA!) and have been using this book for my last two rotations. It has been very helpful for these rotations (surgery, psychiatry) and am looking forward to using it for my internal medicine rotation next. The book is based off the AAPA blueprint so it has just about everything you need to know. It's all condensed so a lot of "fluff" information that won't help you for an exam isn't included and you can focus on learning what you need to. The layout is an outline/bullet point style so it's easy to separate everything into little chunks of information in your mind. The question bank is very helpful and give you an idea of what kind of questions you may be asked. The best part, however, is the explanations of the questions. It gives you an insight into how to think about test questions (and, to some extent, how to think about things clinically). I definitely recommend this as an adjunct to your other materials for your clinical year!

Be wary of illegal copies.
Not a lot of detail, but since it's the only series approved by the PAEA & AAPA, I trust it gives me the cold cut guts of what is absolutely essential to know to pass the PANCE. I would recommend supplementing this book with another text or your own notes from didactic year. If studying for EOR exams, definitely don't rely on this alone.I like this format better than PANCE Pearls. I like the First Aid to Step 2 CK better, though. (Includes pictures and mnemonics)BE CAREFUL not to buy an illegal copy of this book. This happened to me the first time and my book had typos and spelling errors as well as missing text.**Will update on how I did on my PANCE in 2017 :)

Great review for NCCPA PANRE
A Comprehensive Review was a great resource in preparing for my boards (PANRE). The chapters are broken down into easily digestible sections and hit the high points. No extra fluff or extraneous info. Included in this book is a code to use online where you can take the practice quizzes online. These were extremely helpful, as they provided instant feedback and explanation of incorrect answers. Nice. I was ready for the board exam - scored high and was very pleased with my results. The best perk of this book is you can use the cost of it towards your certification requirements. Just follow the directions they give you in order to claim Self-Assessment credit for your NCCPA certification from AAPA. The whole activity will take about 2-3 days doing about 4-5 hours/day – it is time-intensive. But you’ll get ALL your 20 hours needed for the SA credit for 2 years! Worth it!

So far, so good
I'll start by saying I'm a current PA student who is scheduled to take the PANCE in several months. Students in the classes ahead of me said that the previous version (4th edition) was very helpful in passing their PANCE, so I figured I'd buy this new edition. As someone who hasn't taken the PANCE, I can't speak on behalf of this book's efficacy. However, I can say that it's laid out just like the 4th edition, which is nice and concise. As someone else pointed out, this book has around 400 pages, contrary to the 480 pages that the description claims... in my opinion, who cares? As long as it works, I'm fine. The book has about 300 pre-test questions with explanations. However, the Point code included gives you 2 years of online access to what appears to be 495 pre-test questions and 544 post-test questions. I'm not sure how many are repeated between the pre- and post-tests, but that's a lot of questions, which is nice. I'll try to post an update after I take my PANCE, but for now, I highly recommend this book.

The gold standard
Well…if you have to do the PANRE, and I did, again, this is the book you have to get.I guess I overdid it on prep, but I passed, again, and that's what counts. My whole career has been in orthopedics. We don't do trauma. I've never worked in primary care. I was scared. I really liked Davis's PA Exam Review. That was a good start, but not comprehensive enough. PANCE Prep Pearls was innovative, but whoa the format was difficult to read. I did the Hippo review program (not my style), the Rutgers video program (pretty good!) and the Emory program (the best!). They were all good for CME's.If I were to do it over again, and I will in 10 years (yippee), I think I would start with this book. Then use Davis's, and then do question banks over and over.In my opinion, all of them "prepare" you for the PANRE, but none of them really prepares you for the PANRE. The questions in the actual test were different than any of the question banks, and I did a lot of questions. So, the real goal of all this preparation is to gain knowledge which you then apply when you take the test. With than in mind, I could probably do as well next time without spending a lot of my CME money on prep materials! Oh well, I needed the CME's anyway.
