Cactus of Mystery: The Shamanic Powers of the Peruvian San Pedro Cactus

I bought this book because of an article within it written by a friend of mine, Eve Bruce.Bruce's article is exemplary but the entire book delivers if your interest is shamanic statesof consciousness and their contemporary importance for transforming a world gone crazy.Igniting understanding of trance states and plant spirit medicine (in my view) may be providinga doorway to waking up human consciousness toward healing and connection to the non humanworld

This book has some important and unique information and viewpoints . So It has a enough valuable matierial in it to compensate for an otherwise less-that-scintillating writing style. The percieved quality -good or otherwise- will also depend on the reader's general knowledge of this facet of entheogenic shamanism.. Those who don't know much about the subject might find it facinating. others might be somewhat bored . if they already know alot already. But no matter who reads it .they wil find enough of value to make it well worthwhile.

Ross Heaven writes from the advantage of good research combined with personal experience, and gives the reader an understanding of the effects of this psychedelic on participants as well as what its actions are on the body and the psyche.

This book is great for its accounts of experiences, mostly the healing aspect. There are contributions by many different people, and some writers are a bit foolish. Little bits of pseudoscience and anti-science from some writers, along with faulty logic in general, but whatever. Good book.

If you have read the Ross Heaven book"the hummingbirds journey to god"this one will seem kinda familiar.That is because it resembles the afforementioned work.The author did a great job with the hummingbirds journey to god but this one seems as if he had something else to say on the matter and didnt quite succeed in doing so.If you are looking for info on san pedro and andean shamanic practices i would suggest you invest in the hummingbird,its a superior book to this one.Cactus of mystery travels over a lot of the same information as its predecessor and even the new parts are just the same info readdressed.He does try to add new info with the chapter linking teacher pants with esp experiences but its not real clear that a significant conclusion was made. Kudos for sure to the author for his work in this field and for letting us in on what he found,it was certainly helpfull to me on my own trip and subsequent trips to peru,but he has better accounts than this one.If you havent read either, start with the hummingbirds journey you wont be dissapointedsteven p harrison

Excellent read and great information on the usage and experiences of this medicinal plant. Very detailed in places, but well constructed and very informative.
