Great way to record old cassette tapes
This device has been a life saver, but more on that later. This is pretty much the size of your past walkman. It has a simple casing with similar buttons to what you may find on a walkman. The only difference is that it has USB port and controls on the back for recording and conversation. The color is just your standard bright silver and one down side is that this thing can get scratched up pretty easily. It does require batteries in order to function on its own or you can plug this directly into your computer for power. I do wish the power plug was at least mini USB cable so I can replace it easily. The batteries are placed inside the player. It utilizes two AA batteries that are not included. I would suggest that if you are going to record something that you plug it directly into the a computer or wall outlet. It does take time and batteries may just dry out before it finishes and you have to start over. My rechargeable batteries were able to last for about four hours before it died. I do not have any disposable batteries to try this with. There is no software required for this device. All you need to do is plug in a USB flash drive and start recording. It will record from the point you start playing. You can still listening when it is recording so you could easily create separate MP3. Honestly, I just do the editing later as I do not have the patience to sit there and wait. That being said, it does have to play through the ENTIRE tape if the entire tape is full so it could take time. In terms of sound quality, it is as good as it can be for a cassette tape transfer. I actually used this more for some old graduation speeches my family friends wanted to keep. Cassette tapes do wear out so this device was a life saver. It is pretty simple as I just let it play through and separated where I needed to. The player plays pretty well. It did not eat up my tape or anything. It did not get stuck or lose any sound but tapes are old and could snap so be careful when playing anything. None of the buttons stick which is great. It does come with headphones and unfortunately are not the ones I would use. These headphones pretty much are like the ones you would have gotten with walkmans in the past minus the pads. It is a bit cheap and just not the best quality headphones so you are better off just using ones that may have come with your cell phone. I use my apple headphones that came with my ipod. Overall this is a good thing to have if you want to listen to your old tapes or want to convert them. I would suggest converting them to keep them in your memories forever. I personally like having the cassette tape to listen to in the car sometimes but tapes get old and break so best to use these to keep a back up copy in case that happens. The build it solid and the only down side is that the headphones are not the best and the case can be scratched up a bit easy.

No Good Star Ratings are inflated
It’s funny this used to be the reviews for an external CD player now they just updated the listing to these headphones now to be able to use the reviews for this product.

Cassette Tape to MP3 Converter, Great Product
A great machine to convert cassette tape to MP3 player. Besides main converter, there are headphone and USB cable inside the box. After few days of use, the sound was smooth and clear. I recommend this product. It's a great product for a cassette tape collector!

Wrong product was sent
I specifically ordered this cassette player/MP3 converter for my old singing tapes. What I got was a flat hard drive converter - not a cassette module at all. I was pretty upset. I ended up giving it to one of my grown sons in case they could use the darned thing. Useless to me.

Product didn't work but seller was anxious to make it right
I was only able to capture audio on two of two dozen tries. The seller contacted me and offered a refund without any hassle at all. Not crazy about this one product, but would definitely buy from this seller again.

Purchased two. Neither one worked
Purchased one of these, and it wouldn't run. The tape spindles clicked and wouldn't turn the tape. I exchanged it and the next one ran, but wouldn't record to USB as promised. A button is pushed to start recording, and again to stop. It started, but would not stop. The file that was produced sometimes had a few seconds of audio, other times nothing.

Just what I needed!
Bought a laptop that didn't have the CD drive and had to scramble to buy this piece. Arrived quickly and did it's job, which was to download quickbooks on my laptop. Works great!

Didn't work
I bought this to work with my new Mac laptop. It had to go through the USB-thunderbolt adapter, which I don't think was a problem given other reviews, but it didn't work consistently. I got it to read one CD (a music CD I bought), which I was able to download into my iTunes. But it won't read other purchased music CDs (it's like they're not even in the drive). I also tried burning a music CD three times and every time it failed. The first time it worked fine for a while and then failed midway through the burning.
