Deen Castronovo, Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich. Put these three titans together in a band and you have REVOLUTION SAINTS. Superbly handling drums and lead vocals is Deen Castronovo. Already renowned for his drum talents and backing vocals in Journey, Bad English and more, Deens excellent vocal talents are in the spotlight on this release. On bass, and co-lead vocals on a few tracks, Jack Blades is well known for his melodic, yet hard rocking approach to songwriting and playing via multiple classic albums by his main band Night Ranger, as well as with the Damn Yankees and the Shaw/Blades releases. On guitar, Doug Aldrich was excited to lend his fiery blues guitar attack to such a unique and melodic band. Doug, who just left Whitesnake after a fruitful 12 year run (including co-writing 2010s critically acclaimed "Forevermore" release) and also of Burning Rain and formerly of DIO, has a deep pedigree and is one of todays most respected guitarists. You can tell by the name - and the names involved - that Revolution Saints is not going to be your average rock n roll band. The record brings back the classic melodic rock style to where it should be: inspiring, uplifting vocals, soaring melodies and musicianship to die for. Simply put, it is completely badass.

The best way to describe this band and this release is ...
The best way to describe this band and this release is that Journey and Night Ranger had a baby and put the child on steroids. The best of Journey and Night Ranger combined is quite a sound. Castronovo has an unbelievably good voice and is one of the few people on earth who can sing like Steve Perry (who he sounds almost exactly like on this album). I have always loved Jack Blades and he is a bit understated on this album as the vocals of Castronovo drown out almost everything out. As if his vocals were not great enough, Castronovo's drumming is phenomenal. I have always loved Doug Aldrich since he played with Hurricane (who had Kelly Hansen on vocals who is now the lead singer for Foreigner). Doug then went on to play with Ronnie James Dio on the "Killing the Dragon" album which was an outstanding release that heralded the return of Dio to rock and away from the grunge junk that the industry dictated he put out. Finally, Doug ended up in Whitesnake and did an incredible job with David Coverdale. His playing on this album is no different from his hard hitting, no nonsense riffs and solos. The songs are also very upbeat and good to listen to on the way to and from work. This is the best supergroup since Damn Yankees and Jack Blades deserves credit for pulling off 2 supergroups in one lifetime (and credit for Night Ranger who are still outstanding). Outstanding work and worthy to place in your rock library.

A pretty worthy debut album from Revolution Saints
Revolution Saints is another in the line of would-be super groups that are trying to bring back the AOR sounds of the 1980s. The band is comprised of lead singer/drummer Deen Castronovo, guitarist Doug Aldrich and bassist/backing vocalist/song writer Jack Blades. Considering that two out of these three guys (Castronovo and Aldrich) are my some of my all-time favorite musicians, I had rather high hopes for this release…..and they didn’t disappoint! The most intriguing thing about this album to me is the terrific vocal performance that Castronovo turned in. I mean who knew this guy sounded just like Steve Perry? His voice is a mixture of raw and gritty emotion that is sliced with a cleanliness that allows him to pull of this smooth style of music. The band’s songs are all really melodic and catchy throughout the album, but after a couple listens the ballads—while pretty good—tend to weigh the record down in the wrong direction. Another critique/criticism is that the album essentially sounds like a mixture of Journey and Eclipse. That didn’t bother me in the least as I love both those bands, but others have been less than thrilled with the overall sound of the band. You want 80s styled production? Well my friend, it’s here in the finest fashion. The album is chalked full of huge choruses and melody, pristine sound and crisp musicianship, and a terrific showcase of veteran melodic rock savvy that only these three could bring. While this album is better than I actually thought, it is not as great as I felt that it could have been. I recognized that a majority of the songs were not actually written by the band, but rather by another favorite of mine: Erik Martensson. I’m not totally sure why this is, but when you have guys like these musicians they are more than capable of writing their own tunes. It’s a good album overall, but sometimes you just tend to feel like they couldn’t craft their own unique sound, instead settling for the company decided was best for them.

Arena Rock returns
If you like Night Ranger, Whitesnake, and Journey then you will enjoy this CD. Do you remember when Damn Yankees came out in the 90's? This brings together Deen Castroneevo from Bad English/ Journey, Jack Blades from Night Ranger/Damn Yankees, and Doug Aldrich from Whitesnake. This is riff heavy rock and roll. Castroneevo can straight out sing. If you've seen Journey in their most recent lineup with Pineda as their lead singer, then you know that Deen sings some songs in concert and is backing vocalist as their drummer. Enjoyable to have him and Blades harmonize. This CD is good from start to finish. I hope that they continue in the future.

melodic rock at its best. no fillers on this one.
Awesome cd. Dean sounds amazing. Very emotive singing style with great range. He could easily have been journeys singer if Arnel wasn't around. The album is melodic from start to finish with a definite punch. Check out melodicrock.com for a full rundown of the album. Alexandro del Vecchio wrote the majority of the songs and he has been producing great albums for frontiers records including L.R.S and Hardline. Get those too if you havent already.

Supergroup = super sound
Let me start by saying I'm a fan of each of these guys, so I was expecting great things. For the most part, I got what I expected - the playing is great. The only thing I didn't expect (but probably should have) is that the songs all started to sound the same after awhile. They sound really good in a mix-tape type of scenario, but I found if I listened to the entire album at once, the songs were hard to distinguish from each other.

Probably the best CD's in years for any melodic rock release
Probably the best CD's in years for any melodic rock release. A must have CD. Deen Castronovo is amazing on vocals and drums. Jack Blades is well, Jack Blades!! One of the best players in music. Doug Aldrich is on top of his game. Had the CD for months and can't get enough of it. One would have hoped this CD would have launched Deen's solo career but sadly his personal life has imploded and he will probably never get another chance.

Great musicians and great new melodic rock
After seeing a link to this album on Facebook, I decided I'd buy it the day it came out. It's fantastic. It's straight ahead, melodic rock. Deen Castronovo of Journey sings most of the lead, and if you've seen him in concert, you know what a strong vocalist he is. Since Journey doesn't use him dueting with Arnel Pineda enough on their new albums (I can't say how awesome that would be), it's nice to hear him so much on this one. Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich are great musicians too, and they've written some fun music together. I'm going on a drive tomorrow and turning this up loud.

Worth the wait !
This is the BEST rock cd I have purchased for a long time. I had heard the single Turn Back Time last year and was immediately impressed by this 'new' band. I then found out the personnel in the band and knew the album would be good. In my opinion this is what is best in rock music, brilliant vocals, great songs with melodies that stand out straight away. And when you put a Les Paul in the hands of guitarist Doug Aldrich you know you are in for a treat. Every song contains a blistering guitar solo. The overall feel to the album is influenced by the best of 80's rock music. I played it for the 1st time hoping it would live up to my expectations, I then played it again and again without a break. I cannot speak too highly of this album. If you like rock music........ just buy it. NOW !

A new Journey
For those of us waiting for a new Journey album, it may or may not happen stepping out of the back row of the band Deen Castronovo uses his drumming and considerable vocal talents to great effect. Having sung live and on a few journey tracks this is his baby add to the mix Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich they have produced one of the best albums of the year so far. With Arnel Pineda and Neal Schon added to the mix this is Journey in all but name with guitar driven rockers to piano ballads with hooks and melodies and power. 2015 has had a great start with albums by Thunder, Eclipse getting great reviews and with Toto and FM to come for fans should add this to the list of essential purchases.

This is a good album but what I find with it is that ...
This is a good album but what I find with it is that although there are many very strong songs, there are others that are quite nondescript and could come from the albums of a huge number of artists on the frontiers roster! When it reaches the heights it is reminiscent of much of Steve Perry's excellent solo work. Also being a huge Night Ranger fan, I feel Jack Blades isn't as prominent as he could be, particularly in the vocal department. I also find that on my copy at least, the mix on some songs seems to lack oomph with either the vocals or choruses low in the mix seemingly!I feel that their next album will help them develop an identity and will build on this strong foundation!

Absolute cracker ! This, you gotta own.
I think this is the absolute best rock album since Thunders "Back street symphony" in 1992, everything is strong on this album. Deen and Jacks vocals are better than ever, Dough has hit all time new highs for guitar playing, everything about this album is top class, the songwriting up with the best in the business. It sounds fresh and loaded with punch. If high energy feel good rock is your thing, then your so gonna love this album. Fans of Journeys power tracks will be in rock Heaven, a very special album indeed.

Class album
I have been a big fan of Deen Castronovo since he was in Bad English. The man is supremely talented. I bought this album without even hearing it first, knowing it would be good. It's not good, it's absolutely superb. Great songs, well engineered, and he's surrounded by quality musicians. With a guest appearance by Arnel Pineda. This album has slight Journey overtones on it, but hell that's no bad thing. It's been a long time since an album has made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. But this album does it with Deeno's vocals. If you are a fan of Journey, FM, and classic rock, then buy this album. It really is very, very good.
