Love these books!
The Zoey and Sassafras series has been by far the most engaging and enjoyable chapter books that we have read together so far. It features a clever, independent young girl of color, her brilliant mother, her adorable cat, and many fantastical tales that combine and cultivate a whimsical imagination and a deep love and wonder for science and all the many ways that it interweaves itself into our daily life. The books encourage exploration of the natural world around us, but they also spark imaginative play, and, of course, teach many wonderful lessons along the way.In each book, Zoey performs at least one experiment that is easily replicated at home, almost always with items you would already have around your kitchen. It’s such a fun way to bring another level of immersion and learning to these fantastic books. It has been really neat for my child to see Zoey’s experiments in action. As of writing this, we have just finished book 4 out of 6 currently published in the series. Asia Citro’s books are so well written and enjoyable that I find myself absolutely treasuring our reading time together on a whole new level whenever Zoey and Sassafras are on our reading menu. Not only have I eagerly bought the whole set—one book at a time as we finished them off—but I’ve found that my child is extra eager to dive into chapter books now.Oh—and the illustrations are ADORABLE.I can not praise these books highly enough, and I am so relieved and excited to see that she is working on a 7th book to be released later this year.

Zoey is a strong role model and has good positive self talk
My daughter adores these books. They make her laugh out loud. The author makes the scientific method accessible and interesting for a 5.5 year old. Zoey is a strong role model and has good positive self talk. Her mom encourages her to figure things out on her own but gives her support when she’s stumped. In this one, the monster isn’t scary and is scared of Sassafras. At one point he hides in a tree and my daughter wants to look at that photo over and over. She laughs every time.

This series is super cute. My 5 year old kid loves monsters right now but is still scared of them. We read this together and he talks about constantly. He generally reads books like Captain Underpants, so this is a nice break from all the toilet humor. He also loves science and this series talks about the scientific method!!

Perfect for reading to my five year old grandchildren
Perfect for reading to my five year old grandchildren. They giggled at the story, wanted more, and wanted to do the bread mold experiment. Learned some science while being entertained.

Fall in love with Gorp
This is my son's favorite of the Zoey and Sassafras series! As with Dragons and Marshmallows (Zoey and Sassafras) , Zoey leads kids on an exciting adventure of science. We paired this book with a chapter from Asia's book The Curious Kid's Science Book: 100+ Creative Hands-On Activities for Ages 4-8 on mold and my son is loving it. We are homeschoolers and this is a great way to learn science! Thanks, Asia!

Great book series!
My 6 year old loved this one. She especially loved how the monster was afraid of Sassafras. She kept begging me to read the next chapter and when it was over she asked when the next part of the series is coming out! This is a great series, I highly recommend it.

We loved this and even felt the need to do an experiment of our own after reading. We had bags of moldy bread taped to a window for a week and my child instigated the whole thing! These books are amazing.

Sehr empfehlenswert!!!
