Infamous for his crimes against humanity, Hitler's rise to power was unexpected and devastating. This series takes a remarkable look into the Führer's ascent, exploring his path to dictator.

Past is Prologue
Well produced infotainment. Reveals interesting facts: Henry Ford gave Hitler $50k each year on his birthday, Hugo Boss designed the SS uniforms, the distain the press and educated people had for Hitler. The Nazi's claimed a million marched in Hitler's inauguration parade but news reports at the time say it was 15 thousand who were made to march around the block repeatedly. The one day Nazi led boycott of Jewish businesses in 1933 was in response to boycotts of German products in foreign countries where Hitler's barbarism was protested. This film touches on Hitler as a response to the internal threat of German socialists and bolsheviks in the 1920s (similar to the Spanish Civil War).

Incredibly well done.
After decades of documentaries on World War Two, the nazis, hitler and Germany we have a very high quality doc from our French Brothers and Sisters who bring a New Doc to a new era. This Doc has numerous amatuer and other wise, unseen footage and the way it is presented is in the Professional vein as 'Frontline', The World At War, and the 1997 BBC doc 'The Nazi's-A Warning From History'. The last one buy it now as it's essential for it's unreleased footage and top notch style. At this juncture I'd have to say that it seems to me that others are starting to re look the nazi era. While the History Channel keeps churning out 'product' there seems to be very little meat in what they're putting out. It reeks of re-hash. So, while others might find the 'Apocalypse' series redundant, I actually find it VERY well done, un biased and even if I don't care for the colorization, a fascinating watch. Please watch the 'extra' where the staff talks about being forced to abridge their work for the sake of commercialism. Insane to put a leach after THAT much work uncovering new footage. The company in France who financed this project should be ashamed of themselves for letting this happen. I would have EASILY paid twice the price for a couple more hours of this uncovered film footage.gerard masters

Excellent summary of the rise of Hitler
This video provides an accurate representation of the situation between the world wars that enabled the rise of Hitler. The actions he took to gain power have relevance today in our hyper-partisan political environment, with the Republican party and Trump following many of the strategic actions in the Nazi playbook.

Review of DVD
This is another addition in what has become a series of Apocalypse documentaries I've already seen the ones about World War 1 & 2 and they were very good. Granted it's becoming harder to make documentaries about World War II their dime a dozen and trying to come up with a new way of telling something that's already been said a million times over and other programs is a challenge this documentary simply focuses on Hitler's early life and his rise to power like the other documentaries in the series it take the old black and white footage and adds color to it. While the documentary does do an ample job when it was over it frankly felt an hour short I guess they wanted to try something new by just telling you how Hitler began and even though we all know how it ended not putting that in there makes the documentary feel unfinished this as the others were produced in France the documentary itself is an English and the narrator does an okay job. The only special feature is it making of feature that is in French with subtitles. While this DVD is okay I've seen better on the subject

Startlingly Vivid
As with the other Apocalypse series covering WWI and WWII, "Apocalypse Hitler" captures the first hand feeling of being present at the events portrayed with stunning immediacy in a way that no other series does! The images and film clips are so sharp and the technical wizardry so impressive (kids stay in the picture effect, I believe), that they convey the impression of depth. The result is a realism so convincing that on more than one occasion I actually felt as though I were a spectator in the audience of a live event. Pretty eerie and something that is not duplicated in any other of the scores of series I have. I recommend watching them in Chronological order, WWI, Hitler, and WWII to gain a full appreciation for what has been done here. Now how about an "Apocalypse Japan" chronicling Japan's ascent to world power and military despotism?

Outstanding Series
This video is made by the same filmmakers who did the Apocalypse WWI and WWII series. All are excellent. The filmmakers used actual, and often shocking footage with great narration and editing. Even if you're a WWII aficionado, who has watched every documentary and show, you'll see things in these Apocalypse films you've never seen before. If you only want to watch one show on Hitler, WWII or WII, watch the Apocalypse series.

Basic Information but Great Footage
I think the value of this documentary lies in its footage. I have seen numerous documentaries about Hitler and WWII, but this used a lot of footage I have never seen before. The information provided isn’t extensive, but it is good enough to give you an overview of the rise and early rule of Hitler.

Great Documentary Ruined
I particularly bought this disc to get access to the "Making Of" documentary on the disc. To my disappointment the special features on the disc are "not" subtitled and is in French. If they went to the trouble of adding an English narrator and English subtitles to the main documentary then what was the problem in doing the same for the "Special Features". A completely nonsensical decision on the part of the publishers. I have given it 4 stars for the main 2 part documentary and deducted 1 star for the "French Only" special features

Excellent documentary on the rise of Hitler
My review is on the Blu Ray copy of Apocalypse Hitler with the English soundtrack. This is an excellent documentary with mainly coloured footage from the 20s to 40s. This is a very good prelude to the excellent 6-part series "Apocalypse la 2eme guerre mondiale " from the same French producer Louis Vaudeville who also created Apocalypse Hitler that was dubbed in English. Very appropriate to watch these days as the current war in Ukraine is pushed by another mad man, Putin, in similar circumstances as Hitler acted in 1938 before WW2. We should be careful not to repeat similar mistakes from the past.

It works with Region A
Buying blu ray movies on Amazon can be pretty sketchy because you don't know if it will play in the right region or not, so my review is to just let people know that this version of "Apocalypse-The Rise of Hitler" is in English and plays for Region A, North America. I bought it on Dec. 5. 2022.The Apocalypse documentary series is really one of the best World War series to watch and to own, I definitely recommend anybody who wants to learn about World War 1, 2 and the rise of dictators like Stalin or Hitler to buy these series. I've been waiting for new copies to come out and I am glad I finally had a chance to get this one.

bon documentaire
