Concise and well written material
In the role of a director that includes managing the Basis and DBA teams, I was looking for something that could quickly and efficiently give me a foundation of knowledge in this area. I can say that this nicely written book did the job. I didn't need something that was filled with fluff and unnecessary information, but something that hit all the important points of installations, upgrades, monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration. Once again this is exactly what the author set out to do, and did a good job of accomplishing that goal.Even though I'm giving five stars, it should be noted that the book is verge of needing an update. I can't really fault the author for this, as SAP is rapidly changing every year. My suggestions for the next edition would be to include a chapter on HANA, and possibly focus on a non-Oracle database. I realize that many customers still use Oracle/UNIX, but these days I'm hearing about many that are either moving to SQL Server or to HANA. The main reason for this is SAP discounting these platforms relative to the more expensive option of paying for Oracle.

A GOOD Basis Book
A good book with a lot of good information, but a little pricey. It was helpful to me and I have been doing Basis for 10 plus years, it would be very good for a new person. I only spotted a couple of minor errors, almost looked like typos, and nothing that would get you in trouble. Very nice lists, along with explanations of each entry. Not as much drivel as many of the Basis books have. This is a GOOD Basis book and that in itself is quite a complement.

Well written book
This is a perfect book for someone to learn SAP Basis as a beginner to intermediate level. The language is simple to understand and well documented with screen shots and explanations. I highly recommend this book even to non-Basis SAP folks as a reference guide.

Not Enough Details I think
I would have liked further information, and more hands on training instruction sets, and details. A basic overview. Not bad for the dollars you'd spend for a quick 2-3 night read

Absolutely useless unless you've got a wobbly table!
I've been an SAP BASIS Administrator for 4 years, and have difficulties remembering transactions and processes for particular tasks I don't do very often. Imagine my glee at this book being published to guide me through those tricky problems.Think again! This book tries to cover BASIS from start to finish in just 450 odd pages. That should have been the first alarm bell. Most of it details the SAP installation, but all of it skimps across the subject in a way only a politician could. For instance, the guide to ABAP Upgrades is .... wait for it ..... 14 pages long. Once you've thrown away the pointless screenshots, you're left with this one line - "SAINT is a transaction code in ABAP systems."Yep - that's gonna show you how to create a maintenance certificate, identify and download the support packs, unpack the CAR's and run the installs.Take my advice, spend your money on as many chimps as you can afford, borrow some typewriters and wait for them to deliver a more useful version of this book.

Great book on SAP for any one who wants to study and learn / understand SAP functioning.
One of the best Technical book written, when you read it it feels like the professor is talking to you and explaining you which makes it lot easier to understand the concept.
