Beautiful book visually, recipes a disappointment
This book and the earlier book by the same author are things of beauty visually. There are lots of pictures and stories, but not all that many recipes. The recipes that are included rely on processed foods and really are not the best reflection of Southern food -- even the stick-to-your-ribs food you get at local diners and small town restaurants. I'm just not a fan of Cool Whip, Velveeta, and Jello -- Southern food is so much better than that.Between the two books, there were only two recipes that I would actually be tempted to make. That's disappointing because Southern cooking is so delicious. I guess I expected more foods using fresh ingredients and fewer recipes that are not really scratch cooking or are unhealthy for you or just uninspired. It's not a bad cookbook; it's just not a really good cookbook. I wound up just copying down the couple of recipes that actually interested me and then I donated both books to my local library for their annual book sale.

Where's Delaware?
Love the book! All Southern states were represented in the book, but Delaware was missing in the sequel to "Off the Eaten Path"-which was so fun to read and use. I was looking forward to seeing some recipes from some great beach restaurants in Del. -Rehoboth, Bethany and local diners, etc. I am sure the omission must be an oversight. Looking forward to future releases in this format. Cannot wait to try some of these recipes!(I am dying to get a "real' recipe for Delaware's own , Limas and Dumplings like served at Jimmy's Grille)

Warm and fuzzy
I'm a child of the 50's and this kind of book takes me back to the good old days--- I love getting my quilt out - getting in my comfortable chair- a good cup of coffee and putting my feet up and enjoying a few hours of some stress-free down time with books like this. Sometimes I just sit in my garden and relax with these books. Some things just remind me of a simpler time-- takes me back to nice memories. Life is good!

Fun, Fun Cookbook
This cookbook contains many delicious and unusual dishes from the south. I am anxious to get going and make some of them, but need to lose 5 lbs first…they are not diet friendly dishes, but for sure look wonderful. There are easy to follow instructions and great photos of the completed meal. I saw this at my daughter-in-laws home and just had to buy it; I'm glad I did!

So enticing!
I haven't made any of the recipes in here yet, (I just got it recently) but I want to make every one of them! This book is laid out so well and makes everything look so easy and tempting I can't wait to start making stuff!! Just reading the stories and going through the book was worth the purchase price - I can't wait to use the recipes! Highly recommend!

Another Great One!
I have read and loved the First Helpings book. This is great also. Super great recipes, but also, very relaxing to read, and take a travel trip across the US to where all of these neat little restaurants and places are. I received my copy on Friday and immediately started reading, marking recipes and was so happy to have it. It's a great book in all respects.

Great Southern Road Map!
I saw the author on a local Tampa Bay (Florida) TV show and had to order his cookbook. Not sure if I like it as a cookbook as much as I like it as a road map of great restaurants in the South to visit!

Great recipes from southern locations
I ordered the Southern Living Off the Eaten Path: Second Helpings for one recipe .... the chocolate pie with the mile high meringue. I made the pie and it was gone shortly thereafter. It was delicious and I will be making it again soon. There are several other recipes that I've marked and will be trying them later when it starts getting cold.
