The Frantic Assembly Book of Devising Theatre

I'm teaching a class that requires an exploration of devised theatre and this book has been an absolute godsend. My copy is already warn to pieces, tattered, dog-earred and annotated. My students love the content and the building blocks have really helped us to elevate the quality of art in our classroom. I only wish there were more of it!!

As a theatre teacher, this book is exciting and can make you rethink your whole curriculum. Definitely helps engagement and critical thinking through creativity and teamwork! These guys produce some remarkable theatre and the book reveals why they are so successful, they rely on specificity and collaborative communities. Definitely recommend to every theatre practitioner and educator!

Written in a personal, warm and user friendly way. Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett generously offer practical and at times, thrilling insight into their creative process. Funny, tender and lean. Will be useful to any builder in the performing arts.

Really good and easy read. I highly recommend it for any directors, teachers or actors/artists who interested in creating devised theater.

First half is all their shows/experiences - second half is practical exercises.

Very educational book.

Not really what I expected, but then....I don't know what I expected.

Great book, only concern is that it doesn't seem to have deeper context with each exercise. the exercises are easy to understand and valuable, but there isn't a perception of the group on why we do these exercises and for what purpose. For me I needed that as part of my learning in BA Drama & Performance. Despite that it's a very useful book to begin Devising

Loved the first edition and love this. Like the added photos too. Great value for money and a useful tool for teaching . Everything is in this book you need to deliver processes and devices for students . And a great book for a frantic fan

This is a perfect book for looking at physical theatre practically either for workshop/teaching or performance!!! Highly recomend for devising theatre or for study. Great for university students also!

good book with good tips

I bought this book for use with my youth theatre and it has been fantastic. My group have a good bit of experience, but I think it would suit anyone looking to incorporate physical theatre into thier performances. What I found most useful was the breakdown of how Frantics movement sequences are created. Exploring their devising processes really helps us form are own. The only thing I would have liked would be a more technical breakdown of lifts. But over all sensational. Does not disappoint!!!
