Beautiful Short Stories in English and Korean - Bilingual / Dual Language Picture Book for Beginners

decent basic practice
First off, this is a decent book for basic-intermediate learners who want to practice reading hangul. I wouldn't say the stories are "beautiful" but let's be real - the vocabulary is too basic for that. It's a decent resource. The problems I have all have to do with format. First, there's no good division between stories. I'm reading this as an e-book and there's no way to navigate to specific stories. One story begins the next line after the last one ends, and they're so short I can't even really bookmark the pages. That's frustrating. Also, I'm not a fan of the every-other-line format. It's distracting. My eyes track right to the translation before I can really take in the hangul. I've ended up transcribing the text into a notebook - which is helpful in it's own way, since I get to practice writing - but it's still more challenging than texts that separate the hangul text from the translation. On top of all of that, there only seem to be audio files for some of the stories, not all of them. Besides being frustrating for obvious reasons, it's a solid pain since I can't go back and review a story I've moved more than a page or two past.

Audio quality is poor. Stories are fine.
Audio quality of recordings on the website are not good. I think they are done with text to speech, or the production quality is very bard. Hard to hear, sounds like they are compressed, and the reader is just reading the words very plainly without emotion. The audio recordings on the website can be viewed before buying. So you can take a look and judge for yourself. newampersand.com/beautifulstoryThis was a little dissappontinf because I wanted to read the stories then listen to the audio often for listening practice. But the audio quality is too poor. The other mild issue is some sentences seem to go onto the next page from the previous story. Seems like the editor or printer missed this when formatting. The stories themselves seem okay if you want to just use it for reading. Would be good for any beginner but they are simple short kids style stories.

Great for practicing beginning Korean!
Stories are short, and sentences are short. If you know 'some' words in Korean (first year student), this is great to practice Korean sentences. The stories are short and engaging. Stories are interesting for kids or adults, still entertaining from an adult point of view. Each story is maybe two or three pages. Key words repeat just enough so that if you know some of the words, you can figure out the rest. Font is big (this is definitely an issue with some Korean texts). In a couple places the black font is hard to see against a dark picture. But that is only a couple spots, and wasn't a big issue. Overall a great asset for a first year Korean learner.

Very pretty book...just not what was needed.
A very pretty book! Nice illustrations. Only giving 4 stars because it was a bit too childish for what was needed. Came up a bit shory in the dual languages....in the adult sense. Couldn't justify the expense and not use it.

Good book
Really nice book. Definitely more intermediate than beginner though.

Good book
Definitely helpful for me to practice Korean. The stories were good. But I would ask for a glossary so I know why the words meant. Of course if that is too much too ask, I’ll put it aside and say that the book was and is amazing.

Fun book
For families with people that speak English & Korean, this can be a fun way to share stories together.

Nice story book for Korean language beginning learner
I bought this as Christmas gift to a friend. He was starting to learn Korean last year. He said it is a very nice book for his level. The stories are also interesting.

Content is good but many publishing errors
Although the content is good and the stories interesting enough, there’s clearly many publishing errors in this book. The English word ‘I fell from the bed’ from the ‘when I was little’ story, the Korean translation appears in the next story “in the dream” at the bottom. Some strange numbers appear on the top of ‘I made a friend’ story. And most pages at the end of the page it splits the korean and the English translation to the next page. Could have done a little better by putting it together.

Tricky to read
The childrens stories are nice and simple. The book is bigger than expected and as a beginner korean learner I noticed all the stories use a mix of polite and casual grammar which can be confusing. The words also disappear on certain pages as the colour blends in with the background, this doesnt seem to have been thought through very well. I am using this book to read the korean aloud and practice my spoken korean.
