Hi It's not water proof it has one coil inside to which we have to give 12 v DC for 3 to 5 sec If you give it more it will heat and damage the coil

Does the locking hook lock when inserted from the front or will it lock if it is hooked from the side

Both way possible , it also depends how you fix the lock.

Why there are two pairs of wires ? One pair is understood for triggering 12vdc what is the other pair for ?
