US Chess Standard Checkbook Magnetic Travel Chess Set

I really like the quality of this chess set. It's very convenient and it fits easily in your pocket so that you can carry it with you. Putting the set away quickly is no problem since you don't even have to remove the peices. The pieces are magnetized so all you have to do is fold the board and you're ready to resume the game at another time. I also think that the durability of this chess set is very good. It shouldn't brake easily unless you brake it on purpose or treat it poorly. Another thing is that the pieces will make black smudges on the board after awhile of using it, but it's nothing that can't be rubbed out (so this is a very small thing). Other than that, I highly recommend this product if your looking for a small, convenient, and inexpensive chess set.

For a tiny, pocket-sized chess set that you can take anywhere, this is great. I can leave it in my car and I'll never have to think "Oh, a chess player. Too bad we're no where near a chess set." It has also come in handy for when I want to study some chess tactics without having to pull out a standard sized board and set up the pieces. From the seller's description, it seems these were meant as a low cost, space saving, and weight-friendly solution to teaching chess to a class of people; it even has the chess notation marks a-h and 1-8 on both sides properly. For consistent personal use, it does come in handy. The magnetic pieces stay secured on the board, even when folded and toted around all day, but as a "travel" set, its purpose isn't meant to be anything special other than provide convenience of a quick, to-go set. The pieces might be considered mildly inconvenient to pull off or slide around, but it beats the inconvenience of not being able to play in situations without a stable surface to put a board on. There is a little note on these boards reminding you that you can play checkers with the pieces, which is a fantastic idea, Four stars because the thing is entirely made of a plastic with a strong chemical smell (not atypical of this kind of plastic). Eventually it'll go away and absorb the scents around the area, but initially may irritate anyone with chemical sensitivity or a strong sense of smell. Also, made in China.

Great travel chess set. Before I continue, here is a tip: In other reviews users describe the plastic pocket as a place to put the pieces then describe the pieces falling out. To prevent this, KEEP the magnet sheet that you punched the pieces out of. When I'm done I simply take each piece and press it back into the circle on the sheet with my thumb. After a few "punch ins and punch outs", they go in and out super easy. Then the sheet fits snugly in the plastic pocket without risk of the pieces falling out. It's also handy to manage captured pieces during the game. PROS: The set itself is very functional. The middle crease is small, so the diagonals line up nicely and it's not distracting. The pieces stick firmly but yet are easy to slide or pick up with one's hands. Turning it upside down or tilting it will have no effect on position of the pieces. The board has green squares for great contrast. CONS: The exterior is black and has a someone gaudy "US CHESS Federation" with a chessboard and knight on the cover. I guess I missed that in the description. I would have preferred all black to be more incognito when closed. The exterior feels pleathery like it would rip, but so far it's been pretty sturdy. I'm glad I bought this set! I'm glad I bought it.

I work in a bar kitchen, and bought this set to play with my servers across the kitchen window. Everyone loves it. Pros: Magnets hold very well, you can fold it up and keep a game in progress as long as you're fairly gentle with it. Tokens seem more secure than stand-up pieces, I feel like I'm less likely to knock a piece off and lose it. Tiny and very portable, great for what I use it for at work. CHEAP! Cons: Extra queens would be nice. The pocket seems a little flimsy, although it has not broken yet. Overall I am thrilled with it. So much that when I lost the whole thing at the bar (we were moving, I think it wound up in a box or something), I turned around and bought another one no questions asked. Highly recommended!

I bought this item for my son, for the second time. First time was excellent after a year , we lost it during a flight. Si i decided buy it again last June and we used by the first time during the last weekend, as soon as we started to play with it , all pieces started to peel off , we even could not finish a game. So far 6 pieces has been peeled off but all pieces seems loose. It is so bad they are not preparing this like before. So bad !!!! Compré este set para mi hijo , la primera vez funcionó muy bien pero lo perdimos en un avión, la segunda vez fue el pasado junio pero recién lo usamos el fin de semana pasado, apenas lo abrimos las piezas se pelaron , todas están aflojadas , pero al menos 6 están totalmente despegadas , lo están fabricando muy mal.

Pro: We like it's compact size so kids can take it anywhere to play. Con: The plastic material is too soft and easy to break apart. The pouch storing the pieces can easily lose pieces since its wide open. It has no locking mechanism. Ideally the plastic materials can be firmer, and magnetic bigger & stronger. But for the price, it's good enough.

I have been a chess player for over 50 years.I have hadseveral of these over the years.They are nice to review games at chess tournamentsThis isa qualitychess set,it's nice looking,and has a quality feel to it.Despite the very small size,it's very easy to play actual games on.The pieces are very legible.The magnets are strong enough to hold thepieces on securely.I have fingernails,so it is easy forme to stuff captured pieces in the pouch.It is also easy forpieces to fallout of the pouch,ifitnis turned upside down.The best way to store the pieces between games is set up on the board ready to start a new game.As with most of The House of Stauntonproducts,I have bought over theyears,this set is well worth the modest price,and probably more.HOS has good customer service.If something is wrong with your product,they want to know about it,and have anopportunity to make it right.I highly recommenf both the product,and the seller.

If I could give 4.5 stars I would as the 2 drawbacks I have aren’t super major, at least to me anyway. First the good. The set seems durable. Nice gloss to the pieces. Seems great for my intended use which is for study while traveling. The major factor for my happiness with the set though is the full set of replacement pieces. Maybe I got an updated set since some of the reviews but mine came with not only 32+2 extra queens and 2 blank pieces but also the bonus 32 pieces. Beyond happy about this. The 2 drawbacks I have are this. Yes, the face of a pawn came off during the first use. Whatever, that’s what super glue is for. The other is the overall look of the pawns. To me they resemble coat hangers and it’s kind of hard to unsee. Sorry if I ruined this for anyone else. All in all for the price and the extra pieces I think this is a great little pocket set for chess enthusiasts, both kids and adults alike.

Quite easily one of the flimsiest chessboard s in mankind's history. I was disappointed and returneded it. It's unusable for anybody who wants to play chess and looks very cheap. It's not even magnetic! It's plastic through and through. It's being sold for Rs. 1700 but it's not more than 10. Not recommended. The search for a good pocket Magnetic chess set continuous....
