this is a great little book for the beginner. If you are a visual learner I would highly recommend this book. the diagrams are very clear, more so than in other picture books I've seen. It makes the process of learning to crochet very easy. It is also a good source for intermediate crochet if you need a visual refresher.

I had absolutely not experience with crochet, knitting, or making anything out of yarn before I received this book and that may have made understanding it more difficult. The book starts with explaining some general crochet terms and basic techniques. I was able to conquer the simple chain, but was having trouble with edges once I started building on the chain. I followed the directions to the t and still could not figure out what I was doing wrong. I ask a friend for help and they were able to clear things up for me. They also looked at the book and stated that these bit of instructions were confusing. I was able to work my way through the rest for the book and learned a lot. There were many times that I thought to myself that perhaps the book was not as friendly to people who aren't craft sauve. Overall, the book taught me a lot about crocheting but I seemed to struggle in areas that a crafty person may not find as difficult. Additionally, as good as a book is, it is hard for a book to replace a teacher. If you run it to a problem all you can do is go through the instruction again and hope to find new enlightenment - or phone a friend.

One of the things I like about this book is the large illustrations for the stitches. As a novice I sometimes don't know where to put my needle in the stitches. This books shows you exactly what to do in big bold illustrations. I used a simple crochet pattern from another book and used this book to learn my stitches. I thought it was very helpful.

This book turned out to be even more helpful to my beginner-friend than expected! She has used it several times during her first project to help her finish off color changes, change stitch types and so forth. Now she can use the book instead of hauling the whole project over for advice and is able to be much more confident. Thank You! The modest price made it an easy purchase.

I love the product. The book is out of print, so I was very happy to find one available for a reasonable price! The added bonus of the book being in large print was fantastic. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was because of how long it took for me to receive my order. I had honestly almost forgotten that I had ordered it. Then it showed up in my mailbox. A very happy Christmas present!

Love this reference book. Love that it just has information and not patterns. Easy to read with simple and clear pictures.
